Apprentice III - Tool and Die/Mold Maker

Job Overview

We are currently accepting applications for four (4) openings in the Apprenticeship Program. There are openings for both Tool & Die Maker and Mold Maker positions.


This is a fully accredited, four (4) year Apprenticeship Program, approved by the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Council and the Federal Committee on Apprenticeship.  It will include 8,000 hours of on-the-job training plus additional related studies.


We established a relationship with Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in January 2019 and all related studies now take place at the HACC Midtown Campus in Harrisburg, PA one day per week. TE pays 100% of the tuition cost (subject to Expense Reimbursement Agreement). Apprentices generally work a modified shift while attending class in the form of four (4) 10-hour work days with the 5th day devoted to preparing for and then attending class in the afternoon. 

What your background should look like:

The following is a list of desirable qualifications for applicants to the Apprenticeship Program:


TE Work Experience:

  • Die Mechanic with expertise in troubleshooting and repairing progressive dies, and the skill level to make, condition, and modify close tolerance tooling.
  • Mold Mechanic with expertise in troubleshooting and repairing injection or transfer molds, and the skill level to make, condition and modify close tolerance tooling
  • Machinist / Machine Operator Shop with the skill level to make, condition and modify close tolerance tooling
  • Die Repair / Mold Repair with the skill level to troubleshoot / repair progressive dies or molds
  • Experience in any job with skill that relates to the Apprenticeship


Non-TE Work Experience:

  • Completed State Approved or Corporate Approved Machinist Apprenticeship
  • Machine Operator of equipment such as; surface grinder, vertical milling machine, horizontal milling machine, Conventional EDM, Wire EDM, profile grinder, drill press, or any related machine shop equipment.
  • Die Mechanic / Die Repair expertise in troubleshooting and repairing progressive or single-station dies
  • Mold Mechanic / Mold Repair experience in troubleshooting and repairing injection or transfer molds
  • Diagnostic / Troubleshooting experience in a mechanical field
  • Work experience in any technical field


Education Completed Beyond High School Level:

  • Associate Degree / Diploma in Machine Technology / Machine Shop, Machine Design / Mechanical Drawing Design or any other technical curriculum
  • Vocational-Technical Continuing education certificate programs in Machine Shop, or any technical field
  • Correspondence Certificate Program, such as an ICS / Intext Tool and Die Maker or Machine Shop Program
  • Any College, continuing education or correspondence course


High School Education:

  • Desired Coure Completion:
  • Math: algebra, geometry, trigonometry
  • Vocational-Technical: Machine shop, drafting or any technical field
  • Communication skills
  • Science: Physics, chemistry
  • Shop / Technical courses


Military Training / Military Technical Training:

  • Any training related to this apprenticeship
  • Any training in a technical field
  • Any leadership or communication skills training
Physical Requirements:

•    Must be able to lift a minimum of 55 lbs
•    Must be able to push a minimum of 75 lbs
•    Must be able to pull a minimum of 65 lbs
•    Frequent picking, pinching, seizing, grasping, etc., primarily with fingers.
•    Frequent standing, walking, and balancing throughout the day is required in this job.
