High Speed Optical Product Development Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Product Development Engineer (PDE) to join our optical team. This role focuses on the next generation of Technology innovations in the Optical connectivity area. You will be focused on pluggable optical transceivers, near/co-package optical solutions, optical interconnects for advanced AI/HPC environment, Compute, Storage, and Networking hardware markets.
The successful candidate will drive innovation in optical design while ensuring signal integrity, manufacturability, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Development & Design
Design co-packaged optics (CPO) or near-packaged optics (NPO) solutions, integrating optical interconnects tightly with high-radix ASIC subsystems to enable ultra-high bandwidth and low-latency data transmission.
Develop passive fiber connectivity solutions like FAU, optical backplane, inside-box fiber cable assembly, ELSFP modules, fiber shuffle, cassettes and fiber termination for CPO/NPO applications.
- Signal Integrity & Performance
Conduct end-to-end simulations and modeling to optimize signal integrity, power efficiency, and thermal performance.
Evaluate photonic integration techniques, and semiconductor technologies to maintain a competitive advantage in CPO/NPO innovation.
Validate mechanical designs through simulation and physical testing.
Have mechanical and thermal simulation and solution experience for CPO
- Manufacturing & Process Development
Partner with ASIC, package, board, and photonics engineering teams to ensure CPO/NPO solutions are manufacturable, scalable, and aligned with system architecture requirements.
Work cross-functionally with engineering, product management, sales, and marketing teams to translate technical insights into compelling product offerings.
- Testing & Validation
Design and execute fiber testing protocols including bend testing, pull testing, and environmental testing and validate products across CPO Engine, FAU, optics connectors, ELSFP, Fiber shuffle, optical backplane etc.
Analyze test data and implement design improvements based on findings.
Support customer validation and qualification processes
Job Requirements
- Using best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to support a single product, service or process.
- Providing technical support in designing advanced solutions to continuously improve system performance.
- Assisting senior engineers and designers to engineer effective manufacturing processes/technology while preserving product design functionality.
- Helping identify potential improvement areas and develop associated solutions.

Generally requires Bachelors degree in appropriate field or local equivalent.

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $87,400-109,200 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
