We are seeking a talented and results-oriented Staff Product Development Engineer for our Research and Development Engineering Group. The Product Development Engineer works closely with current and potential customers to assess design proposals and manufacturing feasibility. This position requires strong technical skills in the design and development of innovative medical products. The Product Development Engineer will apply advanced engineering principles, theories, and concepts to provide innovative solutions to complex design and manufacturing problems. The candidate must have the ability to work independently, and under broad guidance.
Essential Function:
• Lead the implantation of site strategy and growth.
• Able to transcend from the individual project and technical mindset to a broader facility and business unit mindset.
• Able to see department level applications based on technical reports and data from others as well and mentor / direct others on project decision making
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Quality for effective transfer of product development projects to production.
• Prepare preliminary design proposals, technical and manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems using mechanical engineering principles and rigor.
• Ability to conceptualize and rapidly prototype subcomponents, tooling and test fixturing.
• Utilize analytical techniques to develop optimized product designs.
• Implement general mechanical design and solid mechanics fundamentals to drive the development of components and products.
• Establishes project priorities individually and for the department, effectively manages resources to meet business objectives, and monitors progress.
• Participates in the development, modification and execution of departmental policies.
• Keeps up to date with the latest processes, technologies and industry trends.
• Ensures budgets, schedules and performance requirements are met.
• Ensures that quality of services meets internal and external customer requirements.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
• Minimum of 9+ years of progressively more responsible work developing products in the medical device industry.
• Experience with DFM, Design for Six Sigma and Design of Experiments.
• Ability to map task interdependencies, multi-task, task prioritization and meet deadlines.
• Develop, monitor, and live within budgets; as well as the demonstrated ability to forecast major milestones.
• Must be able to work cooperatively and productively with others.
• Working knowledge of mechanical design, FEA, geometric tolerances, metrology, and metallurgy.
• Demonstrated proficiency in creating and reading engineering drawings (GD&T) and schematics.
• CAD software knowledgeable (i.e. SolidWorks, ProEngineer, CATIA, etc.).
• Must have excellent trouble-shooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent reputation for building relationships across various levels of an organization.
