Job Overview

The Manufacturing Process Innovation (MPI) group at TE Connectivity invites applications for a Summer Intern position in Plastics Engineering or a related field of study to support our team’s molding projects.  TE Connectivity is the home of well-known brands of electric and electronic components with a wide span of applications from automotive to the computer industries.  The MPI group plays an integral role within the company through supporting and developing leading edge manufacturing technologies related to molding innovation.  Our team of experts offers tremendous opportunities for innovation and advancement of original knowledge in the field. 


We seek an energetic and creative intern to support ongoing innovation projects by assisting in the design, development, and testing of novel molding technologies.  The applicant should be pursuing a BS or MS, preferably in Plastics Engineering or a similar field of study.  Candidates who enjoy hands-on work in a lab environment are preferred.  The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker who learns quickly and is able to solve problems creatively while working with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in injection molding methodologies such as SIM (Scientific Injection Molding), mold design, in-mold sensors (temperature and pressure), peripheral equipment, thermal management of the molding process, etc.
  • Hands on experience with injection molding machines
  • Willingness to conduct literature searches and perform scouting activities on technologies within the molding industry to be tested at the MPI Innovation Lab
  • Preferred process monitoring and control experience with eDART or CoMo
  • Preferred CAD experience with SolidWorks, Creo, or SpaceClaim
  • Preferred FEM experience such as ANSYS, Moldflow, or Moldex3D
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze, and evaluate a wide variety of complex manufacturing issues
  • Innovative problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good written and spoken communication skills
  • Pursuing a BS or MS, preferably in Plastics Engineering or a related field of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in Major
