Principal Engineer, 3D Printing

TE Connectivity (TE) is currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Engineer to join its Aerospace Defense and Marine (ADM) business unit to take 3D Printing (3DP) from a prototyping technology to a manufacturing technology. 

Provide engineering design, innovation, development and implementation of additive manufacturing technology.  his full-time position will be located in Harrisburg, PA with 5% to 20% domestic and global travel.   


Key Responsibilities:  


  • Build collaborative relationships with customers and project managers to create 3D Printed manufacturing solutions for applicable products. 

  • Understand the product families and the design criteria in order to create printed solutions. 

  • Optimize design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) to create cost effective 3D Printed solutions for our products. 

  • Select and develop the most relevant 3DP technology to create a manufacturing, cost, or time advantage for the BU. 

  • Identify additive manufacturing production opportunities through technical verifications and financial justification 

  • Innovate, optimize, and develop reliable 3D printing process solutions and equipment for production needs through Design of Experiments 

  • Develop a manufacturing strategy to implement 3DP into operations. 

What your background should look like:



  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials or equivalent. 
  • Advanced Engineering Degree Preferred, MBA desirable.   
  • Experience building relationships with customers and their engineering teams to co-design and deliver novel product solutions 
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit evidenced by proven record of identifying new technology trends, mapping to technology and product roadmaps that successfully generate long term growth for the business 
  • Minimum 3-5 years manufacturing or development experience, including but not limited to 3DP, machining and injection molding 
  • Experience in developing new processes or improving existing processes into mass production with satisfied process performance preferred 
  • Be familiar with mechanical 3D modeling, 2D drawings and GD&T. CREO or SolidWorks are preferred 
  • Strong statistical experiment design, data analysis, and statistical process control capabilities 
  • Material property and material testing knowledge preferred 
  • Knowledge of 3D printing technology and printable material preferred 
  • Good commercial and business acumen with experience in analyzing and benchmarking different process technologies and capabilities on the market 
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork are essential to collaborate with our internal material experts, printing experts, shop, internal customers and suppliers
