What your background should look like
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field
• 8+ years of experience in electroplating or surface finishing operations
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in relevant field is a plus
Technical Skills
• Deep understanding of electrochemical principles and plating chemistry
• Experience with wastewater treatment technologies (chemical precipitation, ion exchange, membrane processes)
• Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements
• Experience with automated plating systems and process control
Leadership & Communication
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and cross-functional projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in project management and budget development
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems
• Knowledge of Six Sigma or lean manufacturing methodologies
• Familiarity with RCRA and TSCA regulations
Job Requirements
Equipment Selection & Engineering
• Evaluate, specify, and select electroplating equipment including rectifiers, filtration systems, plating tanks, and automation components
• Conduct feasibility studies for new plating technologies and equipment upgrades
• Collaborate with vendors to define technical specifications and performance requirements
• Lead equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities
• Develop equipment maintenance programs and troubleshooting procedures
Process Optimization
• Design and optimize electroplating processes for improved quality, efficiency, and throughput
• Conduct statistical process control (SPC) analysis and design of experiments (DOE) to identify process improvements
• Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and control plans
• Implement advanced process control strategies and monitoring systems
• Troubleshoot complex plating defects and implement corrective actions
Wastewater Treatment & Environmental Compliance
• Design and optimize wastewater treatment systems for plating operations
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (EPA, local discharge permits)
• Implement waste minimization and pollution prevention strategies
• Monitor and analyze wastewater chemistry and treatment system performance
• Develop emergency response procedures for environmental incidents
Cost Savings & Efficiency Improvements
• Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities in chemical consumption, energy usage, and waste disposal
• Conduct economic analysis of process improvements and equipment investments
• Lead cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence goals
• Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for plating operations
• Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
