Laboratory Technician

Location: Hastings

 

As a Laboratory Technician you will be working with the wider team to help maintain a efficient, reliable and repeatable plating process, to facilitate the production of quality parts.

You will assist with the maintaining the operation of the effluent treatment and water plants to again ensure continued operation of the plating shop function.

The successful candidate will also play a role in the development of new plating methods, contribute to the review & development of existing methods and support the control of the effluent treatment plant.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • To assist with the development of new plating methods with clearly defined control specifications.
  • Contribute to the constant review of existing methods for potential improvements to process stability, product quality and cost.
  • Carry out analysis of control plating solutions and associated processes as per departmental schedules.
  • Support the monitoring and control of the effluent treatment plant whilst maintaining clarifier, probes, filter cake manufacture and reagent levels.
  • Contribute to maintaining, and when required to develop, a system of analytical process monitors, in order to detect and prevent process failures.
  • Contribute to the preparation, audit and maintain health and safety, COSHH procedures to current, company and external approvals and legislation.
  • Carry out investigations and submit reports on any matters relating to the surface treatment of company products.
  • To maintain laboratory records and reporting data to meet company and legislative requirements.
  • To maintain stock control of chemicals and equipment to ensure continuous and smooth function of the department.
  • To participate in training for departmental staff as and when appropriate.
  • Ensure company procedures and policies are maintained.

What your background should look like:

 

Sound basic education particularly in Maths, English and Chemistry. Experience of working in a plating shop environment or chemical analysis is an advantage.         

High degree of initiative required as job holder will be required to actively contribute to the overall productivity of the department. Ability to recognise hazardous conditions and occurrences and to deal with them safely.
