Job Overview


The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for a range of activities which improve the efficiency, quality and repeatability of the machining production areas, including CNC turning, milling and second operations.  This includes creating supporting documentations and providing training to ensure successful implementation, Providing technical support to the machine shop and assisting with the manufacture of NPI while trouble shooting production problems.

Responsibilites and Tasks

  • Main responsibility is the CNC department, including turning, milling and second operation
  • Create effective CNC programmes for the company machining plant so team members can follow and maintain standards. 
  • Provide advice and training to the machine shop such as process deployment / programming / setting etc.
  • Define, document and provide training for current best practice. 
  • Support production by providing technical solutions to challenges, conducting quality investigations and machine capability studies.
  • Enable the smooth integration of new products into production by documenting tooling, work holding and gauging requirements in routings and specifications.
  • Ensure costs are captured and calculated correctly in SAP. 
  • Investigate and initiate method improvement and cost saving projects in the Production areas.
  • Work with the NPI team to deliver new to market products that are right first time and use best practice.  
  • Keep well-informed of technical developments and review manufacturing methods.
  • Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations. 

What your background should look like:

  • Practical knowledge of CNC turning gained through experience in a production environment of a related industry.
  • HNC or Degree in Mechanical or production Engineering (would be an advantage not essential)
  • The ability to programme, run and trouble shoot production problems on CNC Turning machines and second operation processes.
  • Experience in ensuring quality with flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, control plans and quality inspection plans.
  • Experience trouble shooting to recommend new or improved manufacturing processes and technical developments in production area. ( 5 whys , 8D etc) 
  • Worked on capital investment projects. (advantage) 
  • Drive to prioritise and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
