Job Overview

 

TE Connectivity’s R&D Manufacturing Process Engineer will work with cross-functional teams to develop and design manufacturing processes throughout all phases of the NPD as well as enhance existing processes. The acts as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They are responsible for tooling and fixturing designs; process development for new and production processes; creation of equipment specification; and implementation of new equipment into production. Activities include conducting DOE’s; feasibility studies, testing on new and modified manufacturing processes; directing and supporting detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp up. The R&D Manufacturing Process Engineer will provide all required product documentation including SOP’s for new Production Processes, Product validation plans for production, Maintenance requirements for new equipment.

 

Responsibilities 

 

Develop Equipment specifications and validation requirements based upon Plant Quality requirements 

Develop innovative designs to meet all manufacturing requirements for assembly, test, and manufacturability 

Utilize 2D and 3D CAD skills to create/ modify models and detailed drawings 

Research new manufacturing processes that can be used in new equipment design and process improvements 

Participate and lead prototype build activities to ensure compliance with design intent 

Work in the engineering laboratory to build prototypes for testing and customer delivery 

Design and build fixturing and jigs to be used in the manufacturing process of new products 

Create and implement Design of Experiments (DOE) and other testing to understand the responses to design and manufacturing variables 

Maintain engineering documentation including Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Bills of Materials (BOM) 

Create reports and presentations to communicate status updates and progress to Operations, Development team and customers 

Communicate directly with customers to understand and develop product requirements and provide project updates 

Coordinate with fellow design engineers, the Project Manager and other departments to transfer new products into production 

Work with local and outsourced machine shops to build and modify parts used for testing and development 

Lead and participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) sessions 

Support released products by creating cost saving and design improvements 

10%-25% Travel required dependent on Project status 

 

What your background should look like:

 

Education and Experience  

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline  

Graduate degrees welcome 

Min 5 years of Engineering Design or Manufacturing Engineering and Process Development experience preferred 

 

Qualifications  

 

Proficient in MS Office Software such as Excel, Word, Outlook 

Experience with 2D modeling software  

AutoCAD, ZWCAD 

Demonstrated proficiency with 3D modeling software  

Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo, etc. 

Familiarity with statistical analysis  

Minitab software experience preferred 

Knowledge of Design of Experiments 

Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Continuous Improvement (Kaizen, 5S, 6σ) 

Understanding of the NPD process from design initiation to production release 

Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt training beneficial 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to lead cross-functional project teams and train shop floor employees 

Strong project management and organizational skills.  

Familiarity with automation systems, PLCs, and digital manufacturing systems is a plus.

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $102,600- $153,800 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
