The Industrial Business Unit of TE Connectivity has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Development Engineer for our Board Connectivity Solutions team. This position will be located in Greensboro, NC.


This position will be responsible for the development of assembly solutions that leverage modular platform designs to build scalable, flexible and reconfigurable assembly equipment. In this role, the successful candidate will work with New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering, and Operations and Non-Plant production locations to drive Board Connectivity Solutions product strategies and growth goals.  Design for manufacturability and design for automation will be key actions for this position to fulfill. 

Job Requirements


•    Responsible for all aspects of assembly design and fabrication working closely with controls/vision engineers.
•    LEAN PD Process support: mfg concept, quoting, product and tooling design reviews, line conditioning, validation, and approval to machine specifications and established rates
•    Define and complete capability studies / process and tooling validations to ensure capable processes for product launch at build and transfer locations.
•    Provide feedback to Product Development Engineering where design features or tolerances will limit quality, reliability, or keep cost targets from being met in the finished product.
•    Act as a “Tooling Manager” able to manage Tooling Projects through the LEAN PD process and phase gates interfacing with different cultures and Project Managers
•    Manage the process / assembly line or work cell release process sharing measurement results, uptime and yield studies, working with Industrial Engineering, with NPD and Advanced Quality 
•    Drive conditioning / process optimizations as required.
•    Capture & share lessons learned and store released documents in the TE project system.
•    Work to develop, implement, and verify safety controls per TEC-124-98 and drive for Mission Zero standards in our lab and operations environments
•    Proactively drive projects to schedule and budget with minimal guidance and supervision
•    Ensure tooling and process documentation meets all TE Quality and Eng. requirements
•    Ensure assembly design and process documentation is up to date and saved to TE Project and PDM Link as applicable at time of product launch at G5
•    Use COLAB software to support global design review feedback in condensed time frames
•    Collaborate with global Board Connectivity Solutions automation and controls engineers as well as Segment, Sector, and Corporate led Center of Manufacturing Excellence to be aware of “TE Best” practices

What your background should look like

Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5- 8 years automation experience in a new product development or manufacturing setting
•    Progressive experience in assembly processes including tool design, processing, and machine construction technologies
•    Capable of taking assembly projects from concept through approval
•    Working knowledge of CREO and other 3D modeling systems
•    Working knowledge of robotics (SCARA and 6DOF), machine vision, and servo controls
•    Knowledge of Beckhoff automation technologies is a plus
•    Ability to manage code and HMI updates is a plus
•    Working knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma principles
•    Working knowledge of other manufacturing processes (i.e. molding, stamping, plating)
•    Proven and effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail
•    Written and verbal communication skills in English, additional languages of Germany, Mandarin, or Spanish is a plus 
•    Must be willing to travel both domestically and globally as required (15% max)
•    Must be willing to accommodate global time zones differences for effective collaboration

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $102,600 – $153,900 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
