Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support our Automated Assembly operations. This role is responsible for improving manufacturing safety, quality, productivity, equipment performance, and process capability while providing hands-on technical leadership to production.
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues, support new product and equipment launches, and drive improvements in OEE, scrap, cycle time, downtime, capacity, and cost.
Job Responsibilities
Manufacturing and Process Improvement
- Lead process and equipment improvements focused on safety, quality, productivity, scrap reduction, OEE, downtime, cycle time, and capacity
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities using TEOA/Lean Manufacturing principles
- Analyze manufacturing performance and develop practical solutions to improve process capability, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency
- Support customer quality issues and corrective actions through structured root-cause analysis
- Apply engineering tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, DOE, capability studies, 8D, and 5 Why as appropriate
Production and Technical Support
- Provide hands-on engineering support to high-volume automated assembly operations
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, tooling, pneumatic, controls, vision, and automation-related issues
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Tooling, Controls, Maintenance, and other technical teams to resolve manufacturing problems
- Support tooling, fixtures, dies, gauges, sensors, servos, pneumatic systems, and industrial automation equipment
- Support machine vision systems, including platforms such as Cognex and Keyence
New Equipment and Product Introduction
- Support new product introductions, capacity expansions, equipment transfers, and equipment qualifications
- Develop technical requirements and support the specification, purchase, installation, debugging, qualification, and launch of manufacturing equipment
- Work with machine builders, automation integrators, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure equipment meets manufacturing requirements
- Support process validation, capability studies, production readiness, and equipment qualification activities
Project and Technical Leadership
- Lead capital, productivity, safety, and continuous improvement projects
- Manage multiple projects and production priorities simultaneously
- Prepare technical recommendations, equipment specifications, capital justifications, reports, and process documentation
- Present technical issues, recommendations, and project updates to leadership
- Lead cross-functional teams and mentor engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel without direct reporting responsibility
What your background should look like
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred. Equivalent technical and manufacturing experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience, preferably in a high-volume automated manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
- Experience supporting automated manufacturing or automated assembly equipment
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, tooling, pneumatics, PLCs, controls, sensors, servos, robotics, and industrial automation
- Experience leading manufacturing improvement, automation, productivity, or capital projects
- Experience with CAD software and strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and lead cross-functional activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Machine vision experience, particularly Cognex and/or Keyence
- PLC and controls troubleshooting experience
- Experience leading or supporting automated equipment design, build, installation, and qualification
- Experience working with machine builders or automation integrators
- Knowledge of tooling design, machining, dies, fixtures, gauges, and manufacturability
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TEOA, TPS, or DMAIC experience or certification
- Project management experience
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Experience in Automotive, Aerospace, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment
Competencies
COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $102,500 – $128,100 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
