Job Overview

The R&D Product Development Manager will work within the NPD team and will be responsible for leading a team of R&D and Process Development Engineers & Technicians in developing the TE Connectivity Assemblies portfolio. This key position within the Assemblies Engineering group will enable the successful candidate to demonstrate their broad range of development and leadership skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment. In leading the team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Senior Management levels across the organization.  

The successful candidate will be highly technical and capable of leading entry- to senior-level engineers and technicians. Team activities include product design, development of robust manufacturing processes, equipment selection, and the execution of controlled engineering studies and validations to ensure that subassemblies and finished products meet all requirements. This work supports long-term, stable supplier partnerships and consistently high product quality. In this role, the R&D Manager will collaborate closely with Quality, PMO, and Operations to lead the delivery of product designs and manufacturing processes, ensuring a smooth and successful launch into operations.      

Job Requirements

  • Technically steer R&D team members across one/several projects in all elements of R&D from concept generation through to transfer to operations.
  • Provides guidance and approval on technical strategies and approaches.
  • Liaise with PMO on Project Resourcing, Timelines & Project Progress.
  • Communicate project status and issues in a timely, clear and appropriate manner.
  • Drive collaboration across the business to leverage internal expertise and resources
  • Assists in the development of project and departmental budgets, and monitors spending.
  • Team resource planning, management and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Build the engineering group skills sets/strength through growth and development of the team.  
  • Management of team members' career paths in accordance with Global Job Framework (GJF). 
  • Contribute as independent Reviewer on other projects within the NPD group.
  • Act as the engineering voice in cross-functional decision-making
  • Advocate, Steer and Provide input into new project quoting opportunities.

What your background should look like

Qualifications

  • A level 8 Engineering degree, or equivalent.
  • 8+ year’s industry management experience in a medical product development environment.

Key Requirements

  • Strong engineering background with sufficient technical depth to challenge designs, processes, and assumptions
  • Experience across the full NPD lifecycle for Medical Devices.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop engineers and technicians
  • Demonstrated ability to create a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and engineering rigor.
  • Clear, concise communicator. Confident in presenting technical and program status to key stake holders
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, be well-organized, ability to work in a fast-paced self-directed environment
