Job Overview

Reporting to the Director of Global Procurement for the medical business unit within TE Connectivity. The Commodity Manager will be responsible for the management of an assigned group of material commodities to support the manufacturing and NPI requirements across all of the operations sites within the TE medical business unit. TE Connectivity's Strategic Sourcing Teams develop and implement multi-year strategies for assigned commodities, suppliers and parts/services to achieve established goals in supplier quality, delivery, price and service. They align strategy and execution with cross-functional partners such as engineering, manufacturing, product management and functional owners. They execute the competitive bid, negotiation, contracting processes and/or technical continuous improvement for assigned commodities or services; collaborate across Business Units and cross-regions for optimal TE leverage. Our teams demonstrate a high level of expertise in procurement competencies (business/supply chain acumen, negotiation, sourcing strategy development and execution, global savvy, and project and product lifecycle management) and ensure results are delivered compliant with TE policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of assigned commodities. Define and implement a business wide strategy for these commodities to realize established goals and objectives
  • Responsible for achieving annual productivity goal set by the medical business unit. Execute negotiations and drive implementation of selected projects or strategies in co-operation with assigned site resources
  • Lead supplier negotiations, selection and development of contracts and supply agreements
  • Liaise and co-operate with procurement teams in other TE Connectivity business units and corporate procurement 
  • Lead Supplier Relationship Management activities, including periodic strategic reviews, supplier development activities, and inter-business improvement projects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve supplier lead times, minimize total inventory and maximize cash flow
  • Manage monthly metrics including cost, schedule attainment and performance factors of suppliers
  • Work with colleagues to identify and execute continuous improvement and cost savings projects across the supply chain including developing new sources of supply.
  • Obtains quotations from approved suppliers list (ASL); perform detailed bid analysis to determine best supplier; awards contracts in the best interest of TE Medical. 
  • Identifies risks and opportunities within assigned commodities for new suppliers or new products. Recommends alternative strategies and implements approved approaches. 
  • Expedites delivery of materials and services as required to meet customer demands; resolves daily issues that arise with internal customers and external suppliers; responds to internal customer inquiries.  
  • Assures compliance with TE policies and procedures such as Competitive Bid Policy, Approval of Suppliers, Environmental Compliance etc.

What your background should look like:



  • Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related area. 
  • At least 5 years’ experience in procurement/strategic sourcing in a manufacturing environment  


Key Requirements

  • Excellent negotiation, communication and supplier management skills 
  • Deep knowledge of supply chain, contract analysis and negotiation, sourcing strategy execution and project management. 
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills before an executives or international audience. 
  • Working knowledge of Quality Systems within a regulated manufacturing environment e.g. ISO13485, FDA 
  • Requires knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control. 
  • Ability to work independently on multiple assignments 
  • Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor
