Senior Engineering Manager - Energy

Job Overview

 

TE Connectivity, Energy Division is currently seeking a Senior Professional Services Manager specialized in utility scale solar to lead a team of presales, post sales, design and consulting services as well as tech support. In this role, you will build a services organization, monetize the offering, and provide customer intimacy from concept to implementation phase of projects and will serve on the Americas leadership team

 

Technical Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage internal electrical engineering team and external clients to develop Solar PV design/construction packages including solar array layouts, electrical one-lines, collection systems, collection system studies, and equipment installation details for Utility Scale Solar PV systems (20-500MW+)
  • Manage external subcontractors for other adjacent services 
  • Interact directly with clients for successful project execution
  • Lead project designs of multi-discipline teams of 2-4 people including a design engineer (focused on the layout, details, etc.), a system studies engineer, with additional support from CAD technicians
  • Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs (pre-LNTP) 
  • Use Excel spreadsheets, commercial and proprietary engineering software to design Solar PV systems
  • Lead site visits to gather notes and take pictures of existing conditions to aid in design and identify critical flaws
  • Contribute to continual development of internal solar engineering standards, toolsets and work processes.
  • Turning initial system conceptual ideas into fully developed optimized EPC designs.

 

Other Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design knowledge in other renewable areas such as Energy Storage, High Voltage underground cable systems a plus 
  • Oversee and execute process improvements and the development of policies, procedures, methods, and tools in support of delivery
  • Responsibilities include supporting pre-sales processes and working with sales and account management professionals to win new business; implementing business; proposal review and refinement; recruiting and staff development
  • Research and development in solar technology for new product development and stay current on new technological developments in the field. Generates new ideas, goes beyond the status quo; recognizes the need for new or modified approaches
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices 
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

What your background should look like:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Education or experience with power systems analysis and design
  • Approximately 5 – 10 years of experience in the electrical engineering of electrical power/distribution systems, particularly renewable energy facilities
  • Functional expertise with CYMCAP for cable ampacity analysis
  • Functional expertise with power systems modeling software such as PVSyst, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PSLF, or similar software
  • Functional expertise with performance of electrical system studies – load flow and reactive power, short circuit, cable ampacity analysis, 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including study report writing
  • Strong operational, project management, consulting technology and process skills; strong communication/presentation and negotiation skills at the executive
