As a Senior Research & Development Product Engineer within TE's Energy BU you will design and develop new products to ensure our grounding portfolio thrives. Your focus: timely, budget-friendly, and quality New Product Introductions, including sustainability goals. You will conceive original ideas for technologies and products and introduce them into practice. You will partner with functions across the business to evaluate and implement new technologies, and to define, design, develop and qualify new product. This position will be located onsite at our Fuquay-Varina, NC facility.
JOB OVERVIEW:
- Lead the design and development of new products for grounding applications using metallic materials (Cu, Al, and steel) to meet customer requirements
- Executing on cost optimization/reduction (VA/VE) opportunities for the business
- Work with cross-functional teams to transform VOC into internal specifications and design features, documented properly in a Product Requirements Document.
- Assess technical risk and compliance of project
- Prototype sample development for feasibility studies
- Engineering sample preparation for design and process verification tests
- Perform failure mode analyses and improvements to optimize product
- Preparing design verification test plans, Design & Process FMEAs, FEAs
- Executing test plans within the lab, ensuring successful product testing and verification results
- Recording results of design reviews, tests, design decision meetings, and writing technical summaries
- Product data management of engineering bill of materials
- Complete and assess product and component approvals, process capability studies, judging manufacturing deviations and make decisions on deviation acceptance
- Assisting with product qualification, certification, compliance and approvals for all new products and platforms
- Engineering communication with global team and localize product teams
- Being a strong technical partner and providing support to Product management teams. Attending/supporting customer meetings, technology days and site visits as required.
Job Requirements
- Supporting technical elements and contributing to product decisions for multiple projects.
- Aiding project management responsibilities in absence of the team leader/ project manager.
- Contributing to technical function initiatives across various initiatives
- Providing knowledge of general engineering tools and product domain expertise in multiple projects.
What your background should look like
- Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline
- 5+ years' progressive experience in designing components for electrical systems. Note: Experience in grounding and bonding system & component design, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: solar energy systems, ground connectors, exothermic components, battery energy storage solutions, power distribution networks, or utility applications, strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing plated and unplated metallic components and assemblies, utilizing diverse manufacturing methodologies
- Component material selection to optimize strength, electrical conductivity, stability, and longevity, while meeting the product and standard requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of industry standards and specifications, including ANSI, UL, IEEE, IEC connector, BESS, and PV regulations
- Proficient knowledge of product development processes in a stage-gate framework
- Experience in performing product tear downs and benchmarking
- Proficiency in leveraging data analytics to inform strategic decision-making processes
- Demonstrates exceptional initiative and technical aptitude, coupled with comprehensive engineering process knowledge. Excels in planning, adeptly managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent responsibilities
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills across diverse stakeholders, including: Internal team members, customers, business leadership, technical leadership
- LDFSS or DMAIC 6-sigma black or green belt an advantage
- Proficiency of 3D modeling engineering software: Creo or Pro/E
- Mastery of MS Office software, such as Word, Excel, PPT, etc
