SENIOR FIELD APPLICATION ENGINEER

JOB OVERVIEW

TE Connectivity’s Field Application Engineering Teams work intimately with customers to recommend products and solutions for new and existing applications. They identify new applications, requirement modifications and enhancements to meet customer specifications and conduct on-site installation and service of product and are responsible for all technical aspects of the sales cycle for potential application of company products to meet customer needs, including identifying opportunities; determining solutions; creating demand; preparing detailed product specifications and technical marketing support; ensuring high quality and timely project execution and conducting follow-up technical support. They also approve operational quality of systems and equipment.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Tyco Electronics Corporation, a TE Connectivity Ltd. Company in Fremont, CA is looking for a Senior Field Application Engineer, to solve complex Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) needs for physical connectors, using client physical connector designs, manufacturing and mechanical assembly techniques, and technology roadmaps. Collaborate with client design engineers and TE Connectivity product managers to oversee physical connector product design from market definition through production and release. Provide physical/mechanical manufacturing concepts, proposals, and general design support for highly specific client mobile device products. Act as initial point of contact and establish relationships with key engineering stakeholders at client manufacturing sites. Review and support highly technical client manufacturing, testing, and reliability requirements on physical connector performance. Interpret engineering drawings and virtual models for cost estimation and fabrication of prototypes. Work with cross-functional teams in development and manufacturing for thorough understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) and preparation of customer quotes. Review, prepare and present Design for Manufacturing (DFM). Provide technical assistance, engineering proposals, customer training, technical advice, demonstrations, presentations and engineering designs to introduce TE technologies and products that meet client needs. Ensure prototype parts are delivered on schedule.

 

 

 

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • BS degree in Engineering required (Electrical / Mechanical / Systems discipline preferred)
  • At least 8+ years of engineering experience in connector industry
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally
  • Ability and willingness to be a remote-based employee with limited personal interaction with immediate TE supervisor

REQUIRED DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCES

The chosen candidate must be able to demonstrate experience with the following:

Physical connector designs and mechanical assembly and/or manufacturing techniques

Leveraging Engineering competency to understand customer accounts and dynamics directly related to interconnects, cables, and dongle assembliesValue-added engineering solutions for customers’ next generation designs for interconnects and cables

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) review, preparation, and presentation to address customer design, engineering, and manufacturing concernsKnowledge of general manufacturing processes of stamping, molding, plating, and automated product assembly desired

Experience in development engineering and participation in full product development cycle

Knowledge of electronics components, preferably in one or more of our product lines (connectors, electronics relays, wire & cable)

Demonstrated ability to provide effective project leadership

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritizeStrong interpersonal & negotiating skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by the ability to communicate across all levels within and outside of the organization

Computer proficient including 3D Design Applications

Successful candidates will have strong ability to work independently

Outstanding networking, influencing, and listening skills
