The Corporate Technology Center (CTC) Materials Process & Design group at TE Connectivity invites applications for a Summer Intern position in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field of study to support our team’s polymeric material and extrusion projects.  TE Connectivity is the home of well-known brands of electric and electronic components with a wide span of applications from automotive to the computer industries.  The CTC Materials Process & Design group plays an integral role within the company through supporting and developing leading edge manufacturing technologies related to polymeric material and extrusion innovation.  Our team of experts offers tremendous opportunities for innovation and advancement of original knowledge in the field. 


We seek an energetic and creative intern to support ongoing innovation projects by assisting in the design, development, and testing of novel polymeric material and extrusion technologies.  The applicant should be pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D., preferably in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or a similar field of study.  Candidates who enjoy hands-on work in a lab environment are preferred.  The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker who learns quickly and is able to solve problems creatively while working with minimal supervision.

What your background should look like:

  • Knowledgeable in polymeric materials, extrusion methodologies such as single screw extrusion, twin screw extrusion, compounding, foaming, and tube extrusion
  • Knowledgeable and hands on experience with mechanical testing equipment for polymers
  • Hands on experience with single screw extrusion for tubing and compounding of materials using twin screw extrusion 
  • Knowledgeable in process monitoring equipment for plastic processing
  • Willingness to conduct literature searches and perform scouting activities on technologies within novel polymeric materials and the extrusion industry to be tested at the CTC labs
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze, and evaluate a wide variety of complex manufacturing issues
  • Innovative problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Pursuing a BS, MS, or Ph.D., preferably in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in major
