The Aerospace, Defense and Marine (AD&M) business unit of TE is part of the Industrial Solutions segment and is a world leader in the design of components and electrical interconnection solutions that are used for applications in extreme and rigorous environments. About the Role

We are currently seeking a Staff Advanced Quality Engineer (Software) to join the team located within our manufacturing facility in Fairview, NC. This is an opportunity to join a team of experienced professionals who are passionate about ensuring the future growth of our Relay business and emphasize TE’s core values of integrity, innovation, accountability, and teamwork.

In this role you will build, deploy, and continuously improve the software Quality Management System (QMS) for deliverable software in our new product development process in accordance with AS9115 (supplement to AS9100). This role ensures that software lifecycle activities, from planning and requirements through verification, validation, release, maintenance, and configuration management, conform to aerospace quality expectations for safety, security, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

 

 


 

 

Job Responsibility

QMS Ownership for Deliverable Software

  • Translate AS9115 Rev A and AS9100:2016 clauses into practical procedures, work instructions, and templates covering software planning, development, integration, verification/validation, release, delivery, and support.
  • Ensure the QMS remains lifecycle‑model agnostic while enforcing required controls (e.g., reviews, approvals, traceability, records).

 

Software Planning and Requirements Quality

  • Lead creation and maintenance of, Quality Plans,
  • Implement requirements management Standard (clear, unambiguous, testable requirements) and maintain bidirectional traceability from requirements → design → code → test → release.

Configuration Management & Change Control

  • Define Quality standard for software Configuration Management (CM), including baselines, item identification, change evaluation/approval, and status accounting; integrate with product and system CM.
  • Ensure CM covers software, documentation, tools, environments, and build/release artifacts.

Supplier & COTS/NDS Management

  • Establish standard used to and acceptance criteria when integrating COTS or non‑developmental software (NDS) into deliverable products, with clear agreement on applicability of AS9115 controls with customers and suppliers.
  • Contribute to supplier qualification, audits, and incoming verification for software deliverables and services.

Verification, Validation, and Test Assurance

  • Define verification standard and document As part of QMS (static analysis, reviews, unit/integration/system tests, regression, stress, security), independence of verification where required, and acceptance criteria tied to requirements and risk.
  • Ensure test environment control, data integrity, and objective evidence capture for compliance audits.

Release, Delivery, and Support

  • Write procedures for software release criteria, delivery records, installation instructions, and post‑delivery activities (e.g., issue handling, patching, configuration updates) in line with AS9115.

Audits, Metrics & Continuous Improvement

  • Responsible for internal audits and customer audits against AS9115/AS9100 for software, manage corrective actions, and contribute to external/2nd‑party audits (e.g., major OEMs). Note: AS9115 is used with AS9100 and is not a standalone ICOP registration.
  • Define and monitor KPIs (e.g., requirements volatility, defect density and escape rate, verification coverage, audit findings aging, build reproducibility, change lead time). Audit corrective actions

What your background should look like

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in software engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years in software quality or software engineering with hands‑on ownership of QMS processes in Aerospace, Defense, or similarly regulated domains.
  • Practical experience implementing AS9100 processes; proven ability to apply AS9115 clarifications to software lifecycle controls, independent of development methodology (agile, waterfall, incremental).
  • Demonstrated competence in requirements management, configuration management, verification/validation, and released governance for deliverable software.
  • Experience with COTS/NDS integration controls and supplier quality for software and/or services (including cloud‑hosted solutions).
  • Strong audit skills and corrective action leadership (e.g., 5‑Why, Ishikawa, 8D).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting 2nd‑party AS9115 audits with aerospace OEMs; understanding that AS9115 approvals are paired with AS9100 and are not ICOP‑registered in OASIS.
  • Familiarity with DO‑178C concepts (even though AS9115 is QMS‑focused) and DO‑254/ED‑80 touchpoints for airborne electronic hardware coordination.
  • Experience of ALM/PLM and CM tools (e.g., Polarion/DOORS/CodeBeamer, Git/GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps), static analysis, unit test frameworks, and CI/CD.
  • CMMI‑DEV exposure and ability to reconcile with AS9115 objectives (recognizing OEMs may audit to AS9115 separately).

 

Core Competencies

  • Regulatory literacy: Reads and translates AS9115/AS9100 clauses into actionable procedures.
  • Risk‑based thinking: Calibrates verification rigor and independence based on software criticality and customer requirements.
  • Communication & facilitation: Guides engineering teams, suppliers, and customers through audits, reviews, and compliance decision‑making.
  • Data‑driven improvement: Designs meaningful metrics and drives CAPAs to closure with measurable effect.
  • Expert in problem solving tools such as 8D, PPSR, 5 why, Kepner Trego, Pareto Principles and data analysis, Six Sigma Black Belt or Equivalent is a plus.
  • Due to ITAR regulations, US citizenship or US lawful permanent residency (green card) is required to apply for this position.

 

What Success Looks Like? Business KPI Requirement (6–12 Months)

  • Zero major nonconformities to AS9115/AS9100 in internal or 2nd‑party audits; minor findings closed within plan.
  • End‑to‑end requirements traceability ≥ 98%; verification coverage ≥ 95% for safety‑relevant features.

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience:$120,300- $150,300 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
