Senior Manager (m/f/d) EH&S

Role statement

 

The Regional Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager will oversee the EH&S strategy, implementation, and compliance for multiple manufacturing sites within EMEA. The role will ensure that all sites comply with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement. This position is responsible for driving EH&S initiatives, training, and audits across the region to ensure a safe working environment for employees and minimize environmental impact

Key responsibilities:

EH&S Strategy & Implementation: 

  • Develop, implement, and manage regional EH&S programs, policies, and procedures to meet company standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other local, state, and federal or country regulations. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for EH&S matters for multiple sites in the region. 
  • Lead and support EH&S audits, inspections, and assessments, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly. 

Compliance & Risk Management: 

  • Oversee compliance reporting, recordkeeping, and documentation for all EH&S-related activities. 
  • Manage and review incident investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and employee training on preventive measures. 
  • Track and analyze injury/illness rates, environmental violations, and safety performance metrics across multiple sites. 

Training & Development: 

  • Develop and deliver EH&S training programs for employees at all levels. 
  • Monitor site-specific EH&S training schedules and ensure all employees are trained in accordance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Mentor site-level EH&S representatives and ensure they are equipped to handle day-to-day EH&S issues. 

Safety Culture & Employee Engagement: 

  • Foster a culture of safety through communication, employee involvement, and leadership engagement. 
  • Organize safety awareness campaigns, meetings, and initiatives to promote continuous improvement. 
  • Collaborate with site leaders to identify opportunities for safety improvements and hazard elimination. 

Emergency Response & Incident Management: 

  • Oversee emergency response plans and procedures at each site in the region. 
  • Ensure emergency drills and preparedness programs are conducted regularly. 
  • Manage response to safety incidents and environmental spills, ensuring compliance with regulations and prompt reporting. 

Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship: 

  • Manage waste management programs and ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations. 
  • Identify opportunities for sustainability initiatives that reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing processes. 
  • Monitor and track energy usage, water consumption, and other environmental impact metrics across regional sites. 

Reporting & Communication: 

  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership on EH&S performance, trends, and compliance status across the region. 
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders on EH&S-related matters. 
  • Share best practices and lessons learned across regional sites to improve overall EH&S performance. 

What your background should look like:

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s (or University Level Completion) degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in EH&S management within a manufacturing or industrial setting. 
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations within the local region(s). 
  • Proven track record of implementing EH&S programs, policies, and improvements across multiple sites. 
  • Certification in EH&S (e.g., CIH, CSP, CHMM, or equivalent) is highly desirable. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing demands. 
  • Ability to travel regularly within the region (~ 50% travel). 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Master’s degree in a related field. 
  • Experience with safety and environmental management software. 
  • Experience in a multi-site, manufacturing environment. 
  • Proficient in data analysis and incident reporting tools.
