Job Description:

Job Overview

The Director, Engineering Methodology & Excellence will have responsibility for leading the Engineering Methodology & Excellence organization. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for leading a highly technical organization focused on bridging strategic concepts from the Chief Technology Office (CTO) organization into actionable solutions at the product level. This role ensures readiness for next-generation products across product teams and SBT portfolios by identifying new tools and critical skills needed for future competitiveness in our industry and markets. Additionally, this leader is responsible for driving design methodology evolution, leveraging AI for productivity gains, and transforming workflows to accelerate execution speed and maintain technical excellence across multiple engineering disciplines and product teams.

Note: While this position is posted in the United States, it is fully remote, and we welcome applications from candidates located in either the United States or Southeast Asia.

Key Responsibilites

•    Translate CTO-driven technical concepts into practical strategies at the product level, ensuring alignment with near-term product roadmaps focused on next generation products (N+1).
•    Facilitate smooth project transitions from the Advanced Solutions Team (AST), which develops early prototypes, to New Product Development (NPD) Engineering teams by engaging early in the AST process to anticipate design challenges and accelerate handoff.
•    Synchronize the product roadmaps across product teams and SBT portfolios to enable integrated solutions rather than isolated components, enabling faster execution and customer-focused outcomes.
•    Help the NPD engineering teams in the product teams to bridge gaps in new product development performance through innovation such as emerging technologies, advanced simulation, or new methodologies.
•    Collaborate with the CTO organization to understand emerging market trends and technologies, identifying new tools and critical skills needed for future competitiveness across product teams and SBT portfolios; develop strategies to build or acquire these capabilities at scale, aligned with next-generation product roadmaps.
•    Establish best practices and technical governance across product teams and SBT portfolios to mitigate risks and ensure consistent engineering processes
•    Drive design methodology evolution to transform workflows to eliminate redundancies, shorten development cycles, and optimize resource allocation.
•    Evaluate and adopt new advanced design tools and enabling technologies—such as AI and automation—to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support the evolution of engineering processes
•    Coordinate across product teams and SBT portfolios in partnership with MPDE to prepare for emerging manufacturing processes before product design and production begin; connect technical requirements across products, anticipate and resolve cross-stream technical challenges early, and ensure readiness for manufacturing technology changes.

What your background should look like

•    Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
•    Typically requires 18 years of related experience. Candidates with a Master’s or PhD may qualify with fewer years of experience, depending on the relevance of their academic background to the role.
•    Generally requires a minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership and people management experience, including proven ability to lead and develop global, multi-disciplinary engineering teams with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experience levels.
•    Deep understanding of engineering design methodologies across mechanical and electrical disciplines, with proven ability to evolve and standardize processes.
•    Expertise in product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and systems, including configuration management and design data governance.
•    Experience with AI/ML applications in engineering workflows, such as predictive modeling, automated design optimization, and productivity enhancement.
•    Strong knowledge of digital engineering practices, including model-based systems engineering (MBSE), simulation-driven design, and virtual prototyping.
•    Proficiency in advanced CAD/CAE tools and familiarity with emerging design technologies.
•    Experience in transforming engineering processes to align with market evolution and customer expectations, including workflow automation and digital transformation initiatives.
•    Understanding of multi-disciplinary integration (mechanical, electrical and system-level design principles.
•    Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements relevant to engineering design and manufacturing.
•    Ability to assess and mitigate technical risks through innovative approaches and robust engineering governance.
•    Strong leadership skills in setting performance goals, coaching, providing feedback, driving accountability, and fostering high-performing teams through talent development, succession planning, and effective hiring.
•    Experience managing resource allocation and workload balancing to support employee wellbeing and maintain productivity.
•    Clear understanding of how organizational design and people management influence business results, with proven ability to structure organizations that align with strategy, maximize efficiency, and clarify roles and responsibilities.
•    Exhibits strong business acumen with a deep understanding of the interdependencies among engineering, operations, plant manufacturing, and product management functions.
•    Innovates by building on traditional approaches and integrating external knowledge to develop effective, forward-thinking solutions.
