Senior Manager Engineering (m/f/d)

Job Overview

The Industrial business unit of TE is a world leader in the design of components and electrical/electronical interconnection solutions that are used for applications in extreme and rigorous environments. The sub-Business Unit “Electrical” that you will join focuses on electrical connectivity solutions, terminal blocks, and identification solutions, and represents a revenue of approx. $160 million and has a global footprint. The Electrical business is organized as a stand-alone P&L within the Industrial BU and the Electrical team has responsibility for product management, engineering, manufacturing, and field application engineering activities required to win in its markets. The business is a leader in the market segments served, with significant organic and inorganic growth opportunities and potential for further global expansion. The Electrical organization comprises of a global team with presence in North America, Europe, and Asia and has its engineering centers in the UK, France, and India.


The Electrical Business offers an exciting opportunity for the Sr. Mgr. Engineering: The Sr. Mgr. Engineering will own the key product development strategies for the global Electrical business and will report to the General Manager of the Electrical sub-Business Unit.
This position is responsible for leading the Technology Strategy development and contributes to the Product Portfolio Management. This leader will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic product development to scale the business by product innovation. S/he will also help to integrate M&A growth from the product portfolio perspective and create an industry-leading global Engineering team equipped to drive new product introduction and the entry into product adjacencies. The candidate will bring a growth-oriented and entrepreneurial mind-set, excellent product development skills and leadership experience, and a hands-on leadership style. The role will appeal to those with aspirations for further personal and career growth as the company seeks to further enhance the overall bench-strength for succession for the role of CTO of the Industrial business unit. 

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Defines and advocates a clear technology portfolio for the sub-BU aligned with the overall BU portfolio strategy 
  • Closely works with the Product Management to define a solid and transparent pipeline of the developments to be executed, both internally and externally
  • Supporting the Operations leadership in transformation of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Be an advocate for change
    • Challenge status-quo, challenge and adapt R&D organization to increase product output
    • Transform the engineering function and create breakthroughs (e.g. new products, application of technologies from other areas, finds technological synergies in M&A targets)

 

Execution 

  • Achieves results by implementing a rigorous development and project-management process 
  • Delivers constantly on commitments with the specific focus on “Launch on Time” 
  • Closely works with Product Management, Operations, and Sales to ensure flawless execution of the product development
  • Embraces the Continuing Improvement paradigm and achieves YoY engineering productivity by continuously eliminating waste, improving team’s focus and prioritization, upgrading talent / improving capabilities, and expanding team in low cost countries
  • Builds on the foundation of continuous improvement in the organization and moves the engineering organization towards the determined improvement goals
  • Expands the teams’ capability to support and drive the Private Brand Label partnerships
  • Builds a network of external product/software development partners and guides external engineering teams

What your background should look like:

Professional Experience:

  • University degree in Engineering or equivalent, a master’s degree would be preferred 
  • 10+ years’ experience in Engineering roles with 6+ years in managerial roles
  • Experience in a multi-matrix organization with distributed teams across different countries
  • Professional experience within industrial markets and knowledgeable regarding respective customers and engineering requirements
  • Experience in technological evaluation of M&A

 

Skill requirements:

  • Ideally experienced in electrical connectivity solutions, terminal blocks, identification solutions, or an adjacent industry that has structured compliance regulations (UL, CE etc.)
  • Comfortable to work in a fast-paced, international matrix organization 
  • Fast learner, able to quickly familiarize her/himself with existing methods and practices and new concepts/ideas
  • Problem solving attitude and execution focus. Exceptional skill at project planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and building a diverse and global team of technical experts, dealing with complex electro-mechanical projects
  • System thinker, able to be a sparring partner to development managers and engineers in working in various domains
  • LEAN/Six Sigma certification a plus
