Design Engineer - Solar

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Project Management Teams manage cross functional engineering projects. They work with Product Management, Sales, Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, and other functions across TE to assure projects meet financial, schedule and customer expectations. They are responsible for defining and creating project schedules, portfolio management, communication and execution of programs, identifying resource constraints and working with management for resolution, while adhering to LeanPD processes.

TE Connectivity's Project Engineering Manager (PEM) who will be responsible for all pre-contract and post management of all aspects of our utility scale solar projects. The PEM works with the business management team, TE support functions, vendors, customers and field level construction managers in the execution of projects in support of the Company’s strategic plan. The Solar PEM will also travel to meet with prospective clients to facilitate discussion on TE’s product portfolio and engineering services.

Responsibilities:

The main role, as a Design Engineer will be provide engineering support mounted solar energy installations

• Ownership of all generic technical documents relating to mechanical and electrical design
• Work within the technical team and with suppliers and sub-contractors in the development and delivery of technical solutions. This is to include electrical calculations, surveying, shading analysis and PV Syst modelling
• Provide conceptual designs, yield forecasts and financial forecasts
• Support design and technical colleagues with site surveys and feasibility assessments
• To manage the development of cost-effective design and engineering solutions and deliver complete design packages for project proposals (including tenders)
• Production of technical specifications and drawings using AutoCAD
• Management of technical relationships with sub-contractors, funders and Distribution Network Operators
• To be ensure full compliance with quality and H&S systems
• Support the specification of components for the procurement process
• Support the commissioning of completed systems and the related testing process
• Provide quality advice and installation support
• Ensure that engineering, procurement, construction and logistics elements of projects are executed in a manner consistent with the as-sold expectations of company customers.
• Monitor performance metrics, project schedules, risk profiles, and cost performance of the project in accordance with company systems and practices
• Build relationships with key stakeholders, such as EPC’s

What your background should look like:

• 5 years of Solar Industry experience as Electrical Engineer
• Working knowledge of PV Systems and/or other solar design/layout tools
• Working knowledge of engineering design, procurement, and construction practices and procedures. Multi-project execution experience.
• Working knowledge of project scheduling concepts, techniques, and software (AutoCad)
• Working knowledge of office productivity software such as MS-Office suite, including advanced use of MS-Excel.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
• Able to work both independently and as a team.
• Strong communication skills both written and oral.
• Decision making ability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Strong customer service skills with focus on listening to the customer.
• Ability to work with deadlines and challenging targets.
• Mobility: Flexibility in working days and travelling.
• Travel requirement: 30-50%
