Job Overview

The Transportation Solutions Engineering Rotational Program is designed to provide participants with a broad exposure to the elements of the design process, such as concept, development and testing. The 2-year program consists of multiple rotations in a variety of areas. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be placed in an engineering role within the Sensors Solutions Business Unit.The final position for this electrical engineering role will be Tlalnepantla, Mexico.  Rotations will include Tlalnepantla as well as several locations across the US, possibly including but not limited to: Hampton, VA; Andover, MN; Fremont, CA; Harrisburg, PA; Winston Salem, NC.; Hermosillo, MX

The rotational Engineer  will be part of the Shared Process Engineering team and will be in charge to support Design teams for product design and material selection (polymers, metals, ceramics, ….),  ensuring the development and qualification of the selected process technologies. The process technologies will be mainly overmolding and  joints technologies (like metal welding, wire bonding).
 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities
•    Participate on NPI (New Product introduction) teams, suggesting design optimizations to help steer the product design to achieve lowest cost and highest manufacturing efficiency, during a new product launch.
•    As Material expert, she/he will support DfM (Design for Manufacturing) by selecting the suitable material  with regard to the corresponding process technology, in collaboration with both Product development and Process Designer.
•    As Molding Specialist, she/he owns plastic injection molding manufacturing process for production line.
•    Support new molding equipment release into the Plants (including parameters setting).
•    Participate in Design and Process FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
•    Participate / Lead mold design and modifications as needed, with the support of our moulding expert.
•    Support equipment troubleshooting efforts as they arise with the ability to efficiently and independently work with various NA and global suppliers.
•    Evaluating and qualifying new materials and processes and creating materials specifications - DGL’s (Design Guidelines) for material selection.
•    Developing test methods for materials characterization and deploying results to enhance robust product and process performance
•    Exposure to TE’s Operational continuous improvement approach (TEOA) and Six Sigma practices

Qualifications

    BS in Mechanical/Chemical with Material and Joints Expertise – Mexico 
o    Ability to understand drawings and specifications
o    Selection of engineering materials which will meet the design and customer requirements
o    Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) Tools (Minitab) desired
o    Understanding the chemistry and physics of polymers and metals
•    experience with CAD, tool and/or machine design, Solidworks experience preferable.
•    Minimum GPA (Promedio) in major of 8.7
•    Familiarity with failure analysis equipment and techniques (SEM, EDX, FIB, 3D scan, X-Ray, FTIR, etc.) and Six Sigma problem solving is a strong plus
•    Proficient in English (read, write & speak) – Fluent preferably
•    Previous internship and/or work experience preferred
•    Geographically mobile
