Packaging Design Engineer (Automotive)
Job Overview
Packaging is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing packaging solutions for manufactured products. This role ensures packaging meets quality, cost, and sustainability standards while supporting production efficiency and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
o Develop and implement packaging processes and solutions for new and existing products.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Logistics, Procurement) to ensure packaging
designs meet operational and customer needs.
o Conduct packaging trials and validations to ensure performance and compliance.
o Analyze packaging-related issues and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce costs.
o Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging materials, methods, and equipment.
o Maintain documentation including packaging specifications, work instructions, and test reports.
o Ensure packaging complies with international shipping standards and environmental regulations.
o Coordinate with suppliers to source and qualify packaging materials and components.
o Provide technical support for packaging-related equipment and automation.
What your background should look like
Qualifications:
Academic
o Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or
related field.
Experience
o 2-3 years relevant working experience in a Packaging Manufacturing field.
o Knowledge of packaging materials (plastics, corrugated, foams, Box, etc.) and design principles.
o Familiar with CAD software and packaging simulation tools.
o Good knowledge in Automotive Molding, Cable or Harness Assembly Packaging Process.
o Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
o Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
Skills
o Packaging Design & Development: Ability to design packaging that protects products, meets
customer requirements, and supports efficient manufacturing.
o Material Knowledge: Understanding of packaging materials (e.g., corrugated cardboard, plastics,
foams, films) and their properties.
o CAD Software Proficiency: Experience with tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or ArtiosCAD for
packaging design.
o Testing & Validation: Familiarity with packaging performance tests (e.g., drop test, vibration test,
compression test) and standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
o Process Engineering: Knowledge of packaging line setup, automation, and optimization.
