Trade Compliance Specialist

Job Overview

Position Summary: Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of company or corporate policies and procedures that ensure effective compliance to all applicable import and export regulatory requirements.  Areas of knowledge include but are not limited to jurisdiction & classification, export licensing, export screening, prohibited parties, technology control plans, export documentation, letters of credit, contracts, terms and conditions, origin/valuation, and customs regulations. Works directly with the business unit departments to implement and embed each element of the AD&M import/export compliance program.

Major Job Functions:

Product Classification

  • Manage and oversee the integration of the jurisdiction and classification program relative to the classification of product, technology and services.
  • Responsible for classifying assemblies and components according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and updating classifications bi-annually when the Tariff schedule is updated.
  • Work with Engineering, Customer Service and Product Management on both HTS and ECCN product classification determinations.
  • Oversee product classification with other international environmental compliance codes including RoHS10 and REACH.


Export Documentation

  • Strong working knowledge of export documentation
  • Advise and assist company customer service and shipping personnel with export requirements.
  • Advise and assist on all off-line export shipments
  • Manage the implementation, coordination, and operations of the export license, authorization and logistics process

Import Processing

  • Work with AD&M ITC and parcel carriers to ensure accurate and timely import clearance.
  • Resolve discrepancies in documentation with suppliers.
  • Responsible for compliance with all applicable import regulations.
Major Job Functions Con't:

NAFTA and Other Free Trade Agreements

  • Responsible for qualification of assemblies and components according to the free trade agreement rules.
  • Work with Purchasing and Suppliers to obtain producer’s certificates and affidavits for proper qualification.

Contract Review

  • Assist with identification and resolution of contract issues related to compliance. (anti-boycott)

Policies and Procedures

  • Assist in the development and implementation of company international policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a formal Export Management System.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance relative to safeguarding of data related to controlled products, technology and services.

Export Screening

  • Actively support the order/quotation screening process by assisting customers, sales force, proposals and customer service personnel.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an audit process for to ensure compliance with screening requirements.

Recordkeeping and Audit

  • Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory and TE requirements are met
  • Provide reporting of compliance deployment initiatives
  • Assist in coordination and implementation of periodic audits of company records for compliance with applicable regulations
  • Four-year degree in business, finance or related technical field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in international trade compliance related to export and import activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of import and export regulations including expert knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the U.S. Import Regulations (19 CFR), and the International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) as well as others that may apply.
  • Incoterms knowledge is required.
  • Strong jurisdiction & classification skills.
  • Position requires strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, written and oral.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and driving organizational change
  • Computer skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Able to travel as required.
