Job Overview

The role is required to have strong understanding of materials and should be independently be able to do literature review, evaluate the information, conduct discussions with suppliers & internal process manufacturing engineers and work on creating new materials in the domain of wires and cables for Global and Local ADM BU. This role will interact with customers, suppliers, manufacturing/development staff and engineering staff. The successful candidate will be able to effectively develop and modify materials, provide technical advice, diagnose faults, oversee quality control processes, liaison with stakeholders and undertake relevant research. 

What your background should look like:


•    Create technical reports, record and submit information for intellectual properties and patent application
•    Provide polymer chemistry and formulation expertise and apply this to a range of polymer compounding and downstream processes e.g. extrusion. Experience of this within the wire and cable industry would be an advantage
•    Apply a strong understanding of materials analytical techniques to development projects e.g. DSC, TMA, TGA, FTIR
•    Develop new materials opportunities through liaison with key suppliers and procurement
•    Be able to familiarise oneself with literature research in a specific field of interest and with the appropriate class of materials build product concepts for testing  
•    Identify new materials development concepts and translate these into proprietary opportunities / patent applications. Support new technologies and materials analysis that can be implemented on existing or future products included on technical roadmaps
•    Work closely with Lead Engineers, Project Managers, Operations and internal process manufacturing engineers to deliver new development projects and bring successful technology to large-scale manufacturing of wire and cable products 
•    Lead new product Qualification and Qualification retention efforts through thorough
•    understanding of Specification requirements, compiling Qualification Test Plans, overseeing testing and ensuring proper documentation
•    Implement DMAIC/ DFSS & Lean methodologies for design & process improvement      
•    Run product development trials whilst fully integrating with the LEANPD process and PLM Central, ensuring that work is scheduled to meet re-determined targets
•    Support project reviews with project teams
•    Provide product Compliance oversight to REACH/ROHS requirements


  • Bachelor or Master in Material Science/Polymer Chemistry with 10-12 years of experience in the similar domain
  • Strong experience in Polymer chemistry / polymer physics 
  •  Formulation expertise in a polymer field, preferably within wire and cable
  • DFMEA/ PFMEA processes
  • Development and testing new product concepts
  • Literature searches in technology areas, writing technical papers
  • Quality control procedures, techniques and test methods
  • Experience of working with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Project management
