Job Description:

Job Overview

The NPD Staff Engineer – Cables & Connectors will lead new product development and manufacturing process development for medical cable assemblies, fine-wire interconnects, catheter/device connector interfaces and related tooling/automation. The role is expected to convert customer and system requirements into robust product and process solutions, lead technical decision-making through concept, prototype, verification, validation, pilot build and production transfer, and mentor engineers across R&D, manufacturing, quality and supplier teams.

Job Requirements

    • Lead NPD execution: Own technical delivery for cable and connector programs from requirements capture, concept generation, DFM/DFA, design reviews, prototype builds, verification/validation, pilot builds and production handoff.
    • Develop cable and connector solutions: Drive design and development of cable assemblies, wire harnesses, fine-wire/micro-coax assemblies, overmolded cable solutions, high-density connector interfaces, shielding/grounding and strain-relief approaches.
    • Build manufacturing processes: Define and optimize processes for wire preparation, stripping, soldering, crimping, welding/termination, connector assembly, adhesive/overmold operations, leak/seal considerations, inspection and test methods.
    • Tooling and fixture leadership: Design or guide development of precision fixtures, nests, gauges, jigs, assembly aids and semi-automated systems for delicate cable assemblies and connector manufacturing.
    • Validation and risk management: Lead PFMEA, DFMEA inputs, process validation planning, IQ/OQ/PQ support, capability studies, measurement system analysis and control plans aligned to customer and quality requirements.
    • Automation and productivity: Identify and implement automation collaborating with the Automation team, machine vision, poka-yoke, ergonomic improvements, cycle-time reduction and yield-improvement initiatives with measurable benefits.
    • Supplier and manufacturing interface: Partner with global manufacturing sites and external suppliers for tooling, process development, DFM feedback, prototype-to-production scale-up and technical issue resolution.
    • Customer and cross-functional collaboration: Engage with customers, product management, systems/electrical engineering, quality, operations and project management to balance performance, manufacturability, cost, risk and schedule.
    • Technical documentation: Create and approve specifications, drawings, BOM inputs, process flow diagrams, work instructions, validation reports, lessons learned and design-history documentation as applicable.
    • Technical mentoring: Coach engineers and technicians in structured problem solving, process development decisions, validation strategy, concise communication and disciplined engineering documentation.
