Job Overview

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of relays, contactors, power distribution units, and other electromechanical products for TE Connectivity. The role also includes providing design support for sustenance and VAVE projects within the relay product line. The Senior Engineer will collaborate with global and local cross-functional teams to develop products by translating customer requirements into product specifications and managing the development cycle through testing, approval, and release to production. The Senior Engineer is accountable for meeting departmental KPI metrics related to NPD, VAVE, and sustenance activities.

Responsibilities and Education

  • Design and develop relays, contactors, power distribution units (PDUs), and other electromechanical products from Voice of Customer (VOC) through production release.
  • Translate customer and system-level electrical requirements into robust, compliant product designs.
  • Lead end-to-end New Product Development (NPD) activities, including concept generation, detailed design, development, and qualification in accordance with MIL and aerospace standards.
  • Apply strong electrical and mechanical engineering fundamentals to deliver high-reliability electromechanical solutions.
  • Ensure material selection meets functional, environmental, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Incorporate critical design considerations such as magnetic behavior, AC/DC current characteristics, thermal and structural performance, environmental conditions, contact physics, contact plating, plastic part quality, and tooling requirements for sheet metal and molded components.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles at component and subsystem levels to optimize cost, quality, and scalability.
  • Interpret and apply magnetic, structural, and thermal analysis results to drive informed design decisions.
  • Analyze test and qualification data, perform root cause analysis of failures, and implement corrective actions to improve product performance and reliability.
  • Drive engineering performance metrics, including on-time launch, engineering efficiency, innovation engagement, and cost savings through value engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with global and cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
  • Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and a results-driven mindset to deliver projects within committed schedules.

Skills, Experience and Profile

  • Experience in electromechanical product design using a structured New Product Development (NPD) process, including product qualification.
  • Knowledge of electrical system architecture and design is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate Voice of Customer (VOC) into clear technical requirements and design specifications.
  • Proven experience in resolving product technical issues through root cause analysis and implementing data-driven design solutions using analytical tools.
  • Experience collaborating with and influencing cross-functional teams to execute projects from concept through production.
  • Strong understanding of global certifications and regulatory standards, including UL, IEC, MIL, and related compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Creo, AutoCAD, Windchill PDM, and PLM systems.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while meeting aggressive timelines.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as molding, stamping, plating, and other metal-forming techniques.
  • Expertise in tolerance stack-up analysis, FMEA, and design-related engineering calculations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong prioritization skills.
  • Strong conceptual thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, results-oriented, and an effective team player.
  • Hands-on experience in product design involving plastic and sheet metal components.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodologies is a plus.
  • Exposure to structural, mold flow, and magnetic analysis is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to travel as required, including short-notice travel.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering, with strong analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.
  • 10–12 years of experience in the design and development of relays, contactors, circuit breakers, switchgear, and panel systems within aerospace, automotive, or industrial domain
