Job Overview
The R&D Product Development Engineer will be responsible to design & develop new products and lead sustenance /life cycle management projects. Preferred form Fibre Optics background for Aerospace Défense Marine applications.
The Development Engineer will be responsible for leading small and medium sized projects with product ownership for medium to complex sub systems and develop product families.
The Development Engineer will work with Local & Global Cross Functional teams to develop Products by translating a customer requirement into a Product requirement, work through the Development cycle including developing prototypes, Qualification testing, Approval and Release into Production.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible to lead/support Design and Development of New products lead sustenance /life cycle management projects. Preferred form Fibre Optics background for Aerospace Défense Marine applications.
- Knowledge on MIL Grade Fiber optic product and manufacturing Process knowledge.
- Generation of Engineering Development/Production BOM.
- Responsible for creating and updating documentation and drawings. Creates and/or updates all required engineering drawings, instructions or other documentation for customer approval prior to manufacture or installation effectively.
- Identifies discrepancies between specifications, scope of work and quotes; initiates appropriate Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
- Creates project schedule for completion of all engineering tasks and documentation required to manufacture, perform quality assurance, install and certify
- Ability to work effectively with Marketing, Sales, production engineering groups, manufacturing, quality assurance and other internal departments to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion.
- Develop and review design concepts, drawings, bill of materials and assembly processes.
- Support to Review Customer specifications for requested projects, design a solution & provide costing to Product Line Manager for pricing efforts
- Collaborate with Product Line Manager to understand industry needs and define product line extensions necessary to gain greater market share
- Support quality department in solving customer complaints
- DFM & DFA consideration during design of the component & subsystem
- Self-Drive, Motivated for delivering/achieving result & complete the project within Project schedule.

Candidate Desired Profiles:
- Should have experience using New Product Development Cycle process. Preferred in of Optical Cable Harness design and value-added product design.
- Experience in design of Optical cable harness and Mechanical packaging systems for Fibre Optics products.
- Hands-on Experience in developing QTP plan & testing & validation of Optical products will be added advantage.
- Proficiency in Creo software, AutoCAD, Windchill, SAP & PLM software.
- Experience with and proven knowledge of injection molded plastic, die cast, sheet metal design, manufacturing methods & processes like Molding, Stamping, Plating and other Metal Forming processes.
- Experience in Tolerance Stack-up Analysis, FMEA and Theoretical Design related calculations.
- Knowledge of Product Development Cycle and Processes (NPD,NPI,Agile,Productivity).
- Proven Ability to transform Voice of Customer into Technical Specifications.
- Capable of Handling Multiple Projects simultaneously.
- Good Conceptual, Problem Solving (RCCA) and Analytical Skills.
- Should be Self-Motivated, Adaptive, Passionate about results and a Good Team Player.
- Demonstrated Experience of working in a fast paced and changing environment with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Experience in Product Design involving Plastic and Sheet Metal parts.
- DFSS certified / Knowledge of six sigma tools will be an added advantage.
- Experience & knowledge in structural analysis will be added advantage.
- Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (UL, IEC, MIL etc) will be an added advantage.
- Willingness to Travel as required and at short notice.
Qualifications & Experience:
- B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering with good Analytical and Conceptual Skills.
- About 4 to 6 years’ experience in New Product Development & component end to end development (preferred in Fibre Optical Product Design) in Aerospace or Industrial domain.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (Creo or similar)
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma Methodology and tools, such as DFSS, FTA,RCCA , graphical analysis, hypothesis testing etc.
- Knowledge on connectors products or applications will be advantage.
- Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (UL, IEC, MIL etc.); Familiarity with IATF/ATEX etc.

Generally requires Bachelors degree in appropriate field or local equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional level experience
