R&D/PRODUCT DVL ENGINEER II

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Data and Devices Business Unit in India is looking for Power cable assembly sustaining PDE. The Product Engineer is responsible for maintain existing Power cable assembly product lines, optimize for new products, from market definition through production and release. This position owns technical responsibility to solve technical problems, answer technical inquires from internal or external customers.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• BS degree in Engineering required (Mechanical / System discipline preferred)

• At least  5 years of engineering experience in connector and cable assemblies

• Basic knowledge of  Power cable is preferred

Must have demonstrated experience in the following:

• Fundamental understanding of connector design and mechanical assembly and/or manufacturing techniques
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) review, preparation, and presentation to address customer design, engineering, and manufacturing requirements 
• Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes to include stamping, molding, plating, and automated product assembly
• Experience in development engineering and participation in full product development cycle
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D Design Applications,  Creo , ANSYS simulation beneficial
• Problem solving, customer complain handling, tolerance analysis are required
• Understanding of basic raw material property including both metal and resin
• Strong interpersonal communication and team working skills
• English language is a must to work with a global team or customers in both written and oral communication.
• Logic thinking with engineering discipline to guide daily work
• Power related design experience in power cable assembly is a strong plus
• Thermal management experience in power cable assembly  is another strong plus
• Familiarity of switch, server equipment is preferred.

• Responsible for product lifecycle management with all technical ownership
• Maintain and optimize responsible product lines for lower cost, better performance or manufacturing efficiency
• Performs activities concerned with design, development, manufacturing and testing.
• Conceives ideas for new products and use the engineering tools to create models and drawings, introduce your concept to team and work with the team to develop an acceptable concept into practical product. 
• Determines specifications, performs engineering analyses, makes preliminary sketches and design, coordinate and support operations such as fabrication of prototypes and testing.  
• Interacts with customers, vendors, marketing and sales, and other engineering functions during mass production phase.
• Define and develop new Power product concepts which provide technical or cost advantages to the customer in order to improve TE’s Data and Devices market position.
• Execute technical documentation to fully detail design drawings and requirements, engineering and product change notices, and design history file

 

Interfaces with internal and external disciplines:

• Reporting and regular communication to the engineering manager or project manager.
• Provide cross disciplinary product related advice about technical and technical-commercial aspects
• Have regular discussions on progress, work implementation and problems, priorities, analysis, CAE with other involved parties
• Advise and support manufacturing team and plants with technical solutions
• Vendor liaison at all levels as required, contracting (through procurement) and consultancy
• Assess customer technical complaints and resolve design-related quality issues
• Adopt and adapt to relevant engineering standards and practices.  Specifically, Underwriters Laboratory and Electronic Industries Alliance Standards or equivalent
• Bring new technology of power cable solutions into production
