Job Overview
TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.
Responsibilities
• Lead the design and development of relays, contactors, PDUs, and other electromechanical products from Voice of the Customer (VOC) through to production release.
• Ensure product designs meet electrical and functional requirements, with a strong focus on both electrical and mechanical design considerations.
• Manage a team of 12+ engineers to execute NPD, sustenance, and VAVE projects in line with departmental KPIs.
• Drive NPD programs from VOC to production, including concept, design, development, and qualification of products per MIL/Aerospace standards.
• Meet engineering metrics such as Launch on Time (LOT), engineering efficiency, innovation engagement percentage, and cost savings through value engineering projects.
• Provide technical review and offer guidance to the team to resolve technical issues.
• Understand Design consideration of all product requirements, including magnetic material behavior, AC/DC current behavior, environmental conditions, structural requirements, contact physics, contact protection (plating), and plastic part quality.
• Interpret magnetic, structural, and thermal analysis data and incorporate findings into the design.
• Analyze test and qualification reports for new products and make design adjustments to improve performance.
• Conduct root cause analysis for product failures and implement necessary design changes to meet functional requirements.
• Drive Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and structured problem-solving tools to achieve departmental KPIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to meet business objectives.
Skillset and Profile
• Proven experience in designing electromechanical products using the New Product Development (NPD) cycle and product qualification processes.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading and managing a team of at least 5 engineers.
• Expertise in electrical system architecture/design is a plus.
• Strong experience in root cause analysis and providing design recommendations to resolve technical failures.
• Experience managing cross-functional teams to successfully execute projects.
• Familiarity with global certifications and regulatory standards (UL, IEC, MIL, etc.) for product qualification.
• Strong technical aptitude and willingness to quickly learn new technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, meeting tight deadlines.
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes like molding, stamping, plating, and metal forming.
• Familiarity with tolerance stack-up analysis, FMEA, and design-related calculations.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills.
• Self-motivated, adaptive, passionate about results, and a strong team player.
• Knowledge in designing products involving plastic and sheet metal parts.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma tools is a plus.
• Understanding of structural analysis, mold flow analysis, and magnetic analysis is advantageous.
• Willingness to travel as required, including short-notice trips
Qualification and Experience
• B.E./B.Tech/Mtech. Mechanical/Electrical & Electronics Engineering with good Analytical and Conceptual Skills.
• About 15+ years’ experience in Relays, Contactor, Circuit Breaker, switch gear, panel design in Aerospace, Automotive or Industrial domain Industries.
