Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

What your background should look like:

ROLE OBJECTIVE 

 

The Manager Solar Engineering will report to the Head of Global Energy Technical Center Bangalore, part of Energy Business unit. S/he will lead & be responsible for managing team of NPD, VA/VE and sustaining engineers as well as perform management duties. The role will be the main point of contact for TE Energy’s connectors and fittings products for Solar applications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

•    Manage and drive the Solar team with responsibility of product development and sustaining activities
•    Demonstrate technical leadership. Provide technical solutions, break through ideas and manage resources. 
•    Accountable for delivering NPD projects on-time and on-budget. Execute cost optimization /reduction (VA/VE) opportunities as required.
•    Participate in Design reviews & project reviews.
•    Empower team to grow and achieve results through supported development and coaching. Develop successors and high potential employees.
•    Monitor all business-critical engineering metrics with regular reports to management to show progress toward monthly/quarterly/annual goals.
•    Successfully facilitate transfer and support of new product introduction (NPI) into high volume manufacturing.
•    Work closely with vendors for prototype development, and closely coordinate with manufacturing operations during product industrialization phase.
•    Work closely with testing laboratory within India and/or outside.
•    Support product compliance and approvals for all new products and platforms as required by our customers.
•    Be a strong technical partner and provide support to Product management teams.
•    Manage Team performance and up skilling.

Education / Knowledge / Critical Experience / Competencies

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

 

•    Graduate in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
•    Organised, methodical and self-motivated team leader with the ability to manage team.
•    More than 13 years of total engineering experience and with more than 5 years of experience in supervising and leading engineering team.
•    5+ years of experience in design & development of products used in Solar sector, like MC4 connectors will be added advantage.
•    Excellent in People management, resource management and portfolio management activities.
•    Knowledge in product design of plastic as well as sheet metal components will be added advantage.
•    Experience in product design & knowhow of connector products used in high-voltage power networks, mainly in utility sector (essential)
•    Experience of full new product development methodology is must. Use of AGILE/SCRUM will be an added advantage.
•    Experience in VA/VE & reverse engineering is important.
•    Awareness on R&D budget preparation and managing the cost.
•    LDFSS or DMAIC 6-sigma black or green belt an advantage
•    Awareness on ANSI, UL, IEEE, IEC connector specifications an advantage

•    Proven ability to drive for results, execute on engineering deliverables and supervise a mechanical engineering team to successfully deliver on commitments to the business and customers
•    Strong customer service mindset and mentality of delivering quality products and services on time and within company cost and profitability objectives.
•    Fluent communication skills facilitating collaboration with own team, customers, internal business leaders and technology leaders to create value.
•    Individual must be self-motivated and require minimum supervision, have strong planning skills and be able to deal with and balance multiple competing priorities
