Senior Buyer (f/m/d) - Metals

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Purchasing Teams are responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment and services, gather quotations, examine bids, and award contracts. They perform cost analysis and volume planning for commodities, evaluate vendor reliability and develop new supply sources where required. They coordinate purchasing activities with the manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels and monitor cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. They also look for and recommend cost saving proposals including make vs. buy analysis, alternative sourcing, and vendor evaluation criteria as well as develop specifications for new contract orders.


  • Responsible for defining complex supplier strategy and classification (grow/fix/exit/develop) for the assigned suppliers and commodities (mostly with strategic impact or size) - under strong cooperation with Supplier Quality and Supply Chain Management.
  • Responsible to screen the market to identify suppliers and demands for the future, to identify development partners and to negotiate contracts with them.
  • Leads quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers, including review of financial, quality, and delivery performance targets.
  • Drives cost reductions through annual negotiations with strategic suppliers to meet annual budget objective.
  • Responsible to develop saving plans for the assigned suppliers and commodities (mostly with high strategic impact or size) to reach the saving target.
  • Ensures compliance with the global sourcing process and policies for all activities under responsibility
  • Responsible to align required capacities with suppliers including end of life strategy.
  • Responsible to solve contractual issues with suppliers.
  • Responsible to negotiate high impact contracts with suppliers.
  • Responsible to work on process improvements and to update or create the required documentation.
  • Drives analyses and plausibilisation of regular reports as well as pushing for Data accuracy / clean-up


  • Educational degree: Bachelor degree in Economics or Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • Metals industry, steel or copper knowledge, is mandatory
  • Several years experience in procurement
  • some years experience in Automotive a plus
  • This position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent problem solving skills, good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Advanced ability in strategic thinking
  • Create competitive and breakthrough strategies and plans, broad knowledge of strategies and tactics of the marketplace, knows trends
  • Proven track record in Negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of regional and global supplier base for Metals commodity raw material
  • Ability to work in matrix environment with multi-cultural team
  • Ability to demonstrate strong customer focus and continues improvement attitude
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of SAP and Microsoft Office, i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint
  • Fluent English at negotiation level
