ROLE OBJECTIVE

For our Engineering Services Site at Bangalore we are seeking a professional Technical Writer who will lead the local team of Technical Writers for Energy products and who will report to the Head of Technical Documentation Department in Ottobrunn/Germany. This role requires experience in leadership as well as in technical writing roles, information transfer and standardization processes, to support TE Product Engineers, Product Managers and Sales Teams of the Energy BU to provide high quality technical documentation. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading the implementation of an editorial system (component content management system), for creating and reviewing technical documentation such as installation instructions, manuals, data sheets, kit content lists, etc., and will be working with technical staff to receive technical input. Besides the skills in technical documentation, the applicant will be responsible for leading and motivating the Technical Writing team, making sure that all tasks assigned to the team are delivered in due time. Interaction with our internal stakeholders will be required on a global basis. Supporting the engineering team in developing digital technical documentation is a future project.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Leading a local team of 3 to 4 technical writers
  • Managing the production of technical user instructions for TE Energy products, such as cable accessories, connectors, surge arresters, etc.
  • Driving the implementation of our editorial system (component content management system) SCHEMA ST4
  • Driving the migration of existing product installation instructions (PIIs) and translations to SCHEMA ST4
  • Setting priorities and assure on-time delivery
  • Managing PIIs in PDMLink (Windchill)
  • Publishing PIIs on our corporate documentation management tool (DocLink)
  • Assist global engineering team in developing customized documents according to customer requests and work with the respective engineers and technical teams.

Candidate Desired Profile:

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • >8 years of proven experience working in a leading technical writing position, or
  • >8 years of proven engineering related leading job experience plus certificate in technical writing.
  • Experience in working with an XML or DITA based editorial systems (component content management system), preferable SCHEMA ST4.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Acrobat and MS Office, other DTP tools an advantage.
  • Fluent in English.

What your background should look like

Generally requires Bachelors degree in appropriate field with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional level experience; Masters degree or higher or local equivalent may be preferred at this level
