R&D/PRODUCT DVL ENGINEER II
Job Overview
TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering role focuses on developing and industrializing critical custom cable assemblies (wiring harnesses) for sensor products in the Automotive and Industrial & Commercial Transportation (ICT) markets, particularly TRS Sensors.
As part of the sensor product development team, you will lead cable assembly development from customer requirement analysis to industrialization, leveraging Design For Six Sigma tools such as QFD and the Pugh matrix. Responsibilities include defining process flows, selecting optimal cable assembly processes (e.g., wire stripping), choosing component suppliers, and overseeing assembly operations.
Collaboration is essential: you will actively engage with key project team members, including Quality, Sourcing, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering teams. Your goal is to drive standardization across TRS sensor products by developing and maintaining design and process standards.
The ideal candidate for this role has a background as a Manufacturing, Process, or Product Development Engineer with proven experience in launching cable assemblies in production environments, particularly within the Automotive and ICT sectors
Responsibilities
-
Requirement Analysis: Thoroughly analyze customer requirements and translate them into precise cable assembly specifications.
-
Design Development: Create cable assembly designs that meet specified requirements. This includes conceptualization, component selection, integration into sensor products, and achieving quality, cost, and timeline targets.
-
Manufacturing Concept: Develop a robust manufacturing concept in collaboration with cable assembly suppliers. Ensure adherence to TE Quality standards, achieve cost efficiency, and meet project timelines.
-
Concurrent Engineering: Utilize concurrent engineering to develop design and manufacturing concepts simultaneously.
-
Hands-On Qualification: Personally conduct testing and qualification of selected design concepts.
-
Reliability Testing: Collaborate with reliability engineers to define a comprehensive reliability test strategy for chosen designs.
-
Documentation and Standards: Generate essential documentation following DFSS and Automotive standards, including QFD, FMEA, and other relevant materials. Conduct CAD modeling as required by the project.
-
Sample Production Support: Facilitate sample production using serial tools and supplier partnerships to align with front-loading strategies.
-
Standardization Efforts: Drive standardization by establishing and maintaining design and process guidelines across TRS sensor products.
What your background should look like:
YOU MUST HAVE
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (Mechanical, Process/Manufacturing, or Equivalent).
- Professional Experience: Minimum 3 years in cable assembly product and process development, covering the entire lifecycle from initial research and development to specification creation, concept design, testing, validation, qualification, and production release for Automotive and Industrial & Commercial Transportation (ICT) markets.
- Manufacturing Expertise: Proficiency in cable assembly manufacturing processes including cutting, wire stripping, terminal crimping, connector assembly, sleeve insertion, brazing, element layout, and jacketing.
- Reliability Evaluation: Experienced in evaluating the reliability of cable assemblies and their integration into electronic products.
- CAD Tools: Experience using CAD tools with a focus on parametric modeling (e.g., Creo or equivalent).
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with IATF 16949 development standard and cable assembly standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional interaction with leadership, stakeholders, cross-functional teams (engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, finance, sales), and subject matter experts.
- Analytical Mindset: Demonstrates exceptional analytical, critical thinking, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness to travel as required (approximately 10%).
WE VALUE
- Design For Six Sigma or Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.
- Knowledge of Quality Standards: IATF 16949, EN 9100, ISO 9001.
- Familiarity with other industry standards: SAE J1113, RoHS/IMDS, ISO 26262.
- Understanding of key suppliers in the cable assembly market.
