TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

BU And Function Description

 

TE Industrial is a $2B global business unit within IS (Industrial Solutions), a full-fledged P&L with Manufacturing, Sales, Engineering, Product Management, and Industry Marketing. Leveraging cross industry innovation and proven engineering expertise, TE Industrial pushes the boundaries of efficiency and productivity. Our portfolio ranges from comprehensive solutions for the machinery & factory automation industry, the railway sector, the lighting-technology industry to wide-ranging connection technology. Our continuous improvement programs streamline our processes allowing us to develop quickly – enabling our customers to get to ahead in the market. These solutions make possible applications of robotics, servo drives, Industrial machinery, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), and Outdoor lighting.  
 
The sub-Business Unit “RPS” that focuses on Relays, Switches and passive solutions, represents a revenue of approx. $410 million and has a global footprint. The RPS organization comprises of a global team with presence in the Americas, Europe, and Asia and has its engineering centers in Austria, UK, Czech Republic and India. Bangalore site is one of the engineering centers.

 

Role Objective

 

The Engineering Manager is responsible for Planning and executing the Product development, sustaining, and value-analysis/value engineering projects within the RPS portfolio and managing existing Partnerships in the region including the PBLs. The role will report to the Director of Engineering of the RPS sub-vertical of the Industrial Business Unit. 

Responsibilities

 

•    Supports technology portfolio for the sub-BU aligned with the overall BU portfolio strategy. 
•    Build and provide leadership to RPS Bangalore engineering team with responsibility for a wide variety of product development and sustaining activities.
•    Manage RPS automation services and product development partners (external) in India and collaborate with global teams for their engagement.
•    Support Private Brand Labelling (PBL) partnership in the region and provide oversight to such engagements.
•    Support insourcing of product design, manufacturing processes and assembly line build up from PBL partners or other companies.
•    Work with functional product life cycle team, GAA and local LCE team to support UL, VDE certifications required for the region
•    Support M&A in the region and be part of integration support function.
•    Support product compliance and approvals for all new products and platforms as required by our customers.
•    Closely works with the Product Management to define a solid and transparent pipeline of the developments to be executed, both internally and externally
•    Be a strong technical partner and provide support to Product management teams. Support and Participate in customer meetings and technology forums .
•    Drive cost-out activities for RPS products by applying VA (Value Analysis) process
•    Achieves results by implementing a rigorous development and project-management process 
•    Monitor all business-critical engineering metrics with regular reports to management to show progress toward monthly/quarterly/annual goals.
•    Embraces the Continuing Improvement paradigm and achieves YoY engineering productivity by continuously eliminating waste, improving team’s focus and prioritization, developing talent / improving capabilities, and expanding team in India
•    Empower team to grow and achieve results through supported development and coaching.

Education and Knowledge

 

•    Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in electrical, electronic, Computer or related engineering discipline.
•    18+ years of related Engineering experience with 10+ years in managing teams.
•    Professional experience within industrial markets and knowledgeable regarding respective customers and engineering requirements
•    Ideally experienced in electrical and/or electromechanical solutions or an adjacent industry that has structured compliance regulations (UL, VDE, CE etc.)

 

Critical Experience

 

•    Experience and Ability to manage 3rd Party Partners and build collaborative networks to deliver cost optimized solution with higher speed to market options.
•    Ability to manager local manufacturing partners on time critical product manufacturing projects and manage internal design teams.
•    
Proven ability to execute on engineering deliverables and influence teams to successfully deliver on commitments to the business and customers.
•    Fluent communication skills facilitating collaboration with own team, customers, internal business leaders and technology leaders to create value.
•    Global experience. Skilled leader in communicating across a global organization with international teams, and excellent at working within different cultures

 

Competencies

  

•    Technical skills in developing products for Industrial market applications, manufacturing automation, plastic and metal processing, electromechanical design  preferred. 
•    Excellent record of working in global matrix structures and organization
•    Knowledge of IEEE standards desirable 
•    Familiarity with engineering tools (LDFSS or DMAIC), processes and risk assessment methods (eg FMEA, DOE) and other relevant engineering process methodologies 
•    Excellent motivational skills: a person with the ability to set goals and inspire trust and confidence in team members to achieve the highest standards of performance in a dynamic fast paced environment, while maintaining a high level of expertise throughout the team
•    Excellent judgment, timely and high-quality decision-making skills
•    Excellent
interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build strong, credible relationships across multiple organization functions (inside and outside of TE)
•    Clear,
strategic thinker with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems
•    LEAN/Six Sigma certification is preferred
