The Aerospace Defense and Marine (AD&M) business of TE is a leader in the development and engineering of a comprehensive portfolio of connectors, fiber optics, wires, cables, antennas, circuit protectors and moldings for harsh environments. We have a global customer base with over 6,000 employees to deliver a broad range of solutions.
As a Sr R&D Engineer at TE Connectivity, you will play a hands-on leadership role supporting product design and development for our Active Optical (actives) portfolio based on-site in Arden, North Carolina. You'll help translate system-level requirements into robust module-level specifications and drive execution from concept through release, partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, "build the foundation" environment. This role is ideal for an energized, highly motivated leader who is comfortable working at a detailed level, building strong networks, and making progress through collaboration and influence. A key focus will be leveraging strong CAD capability (SolidWorks and/or Creo preferred) and technical depth in actives—including transceivers, receivers, media converters, and photonics—to support design changes, integration, and product evolution.
What we offer:
At TE Connectivity, we are committed to supporting your professional growth and well-being. As an Engineer supporting our active optical product development work in Arden, NC, you will join a dynamic, inclusive team that values hands-on ownership, collaboration, and positive energy—combining "build the foundation" execution with meaningful opportunities to grow your leadership impact. We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including health and wellness programs, retirement plans, and opportunities for continuous learning and career advancement. You will work closely with engineering and cross-functional partners to bring active technologies—such as transceivers, receivers, media converters, and photonics—from concept through development, using modern design tools and robust change control practices. Additionally, we provide the tools and support to help you ramp quickly, with access to experienced leaders, on-site resources, and an environment designed to help you make an immediate, visible impact. Join us to help shape the next phase of our Arden operation while advancing your career in a global, innovative company.
Job Requirements
What you'll be doing
- Lead product engineering efforts for active fiber-optic technologies at the Arden site, supporting the development and integration of transceivers, receivers, media converters, photonics, and related systems.
- Translate system-level requirements for active optical links (e.g., data rate, wavelength, sensitivity, and interface constraints) into clear module-level specifications and actionable engineering work.
- Create and maintain mechanical designs and detailed drawings using CAD tools (SolidWorks and/or Creo), ensuring released documentation is accurate and production-ready.
- Drive engineering change activity, including creating and processing ECRs/ECNs and updating drawings/documentation to support product updates and issue resolution.
- Partner cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to support product design for manufacturability, smooth launches, and rapid problem-solving in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Communicate status, technical risks, and tradeoffs to stakeholders, contributing to a high-energy, "build the foundations" team culture and supporting execution through influence and strong collaboration.
What we are looking for:
- Experience in product engineering and development for fiber-optic interconnect systems, with emphasis on active optical technologies (e.g., transceivers, receivers, media converters, and photonics) and how they integrate with end systems.
- Strong hands-on CAD capability, with proficiency in tools such as SolidWorks and/or Creo to create, update, and manage detailed designs and drawings.
- Ability to translate system- and module-level requirements (e.g., data rate, wavelength, sensitivity) into clear engineering specifications and practical design solutions.
- Working knowledge of engineering change processes, including creating and managing ECRs/ECOs and maintaining accurate design documentation.
- Solid cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively with manufacturing, quality, and other stakeholders in a fast-paced, build-and-do environment.
- Leadership potential and a proactive, "roll up your sleeves" mindset—comfortable building strong foundations, taking initiative, and growing into broader people leadership over time.
What you'll need:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Optics/Photonics) or a related technical discipline.
- Hands-on experience in product development engineering for fiber-optic systems, with exposure to active technologies such as transceivers, receivers, media converters, and photonics.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks or Creo preferred), including creating and updating drawings and supporting engineering change requests (ECRs).
- Ability to translate system-level requirements for active optical links (e.g., data rate, wavelength, sensitivity) into clear module- and component-level specifications.
- Experience integrating fiber-optic interconnect solutions to applicable output sources and supporting end-to-end design, development, and release activities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively in a fast-moving, "startup-like" environment and build relationships quickly across teams.
- Willingness and ability to work on-site in Arden, North Carolina.
