Job Overview
The Ruggedized Fiber Optics (RFO) team within Aerospace, Defense and Marine (AD&M) business unit of Tyco Electronics serves a broad range of customers in the commercial aerospace, military / defense and marine markets. Our customers count on us to deliver engineering solutions and quality products to support a myriad of applications within our industries.
The RFO NPD & rapid Response team is focused on supplying the quick turn prototypes and customer samples to increase market share of a growing industry. The Product Development team designs products & develops assembly processes that can be transferred to our high-volume production facility. We are responsible for working with customer engineering teams to design robust solutions to address their program needs. We produce engineering prototypes for their system level testing, solidify their designs based on their feedback and prepare the products for transfer to high volume production. A key focus for our team is to arrive at ruggedized cost-effective solutions by utilizing lean design for six sigma techniques. We are currently seeking a Development Engineer to join our Harrisburg PA team. This individual will be a key member of our simultaneous engineering teams and will be responsible for supporting product development for PAC driven projects. The individual will use innovative ideas to solve design & manufacturing problems, with an emphasis on simplification to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency. The candidate must be familiar with manufacturing processes such as machining of components, plating and assembly. Additionally, this candidate should have basic knowledge of ESD protection methods for the handling of active components.
Job Requirements
- New product development includes assisting senior level engineers on the generation of robust design to support customer program needs.
- · New process development consists of process documentation and data collection to support process / product qualification.
- · Estimating capital equipment in support of development projects. Includes, specifying and implementing new manufacturing equipment.
- · EHS approval for new equipment installations.
- · Analyze yield and process control data, then making design recommendations to address potential manufacturing cost drivers.
- · Resolving component design deficiencies as related to assembly of components.
- · Implement design changes of new products to reduce costs and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
- · Assist w/ estimating new process rates and component costs in support of NPD.
- · Arrive at cost effective solutions by using Lean Design for Six Sigma concepts.
What your background should look like
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or related field is required.
- Basic understanding of core fiber optic manufacturing processes, termination, polishing, testing, & inspection.
- Green Belt in Six Sigma Process is desirable but not a requirement.
- Basic understanding of mil-aero product designs is desirable but not a requirement.
- Must also be able to work as a team member with remote sites and be flexible to assist product transfers to those sites.
- Individual to be a self-starter and require minimum supervision.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under schedule pressure while balancing priorities.
- Strong written skills as it relates to design & process documentation.
- Strong oral skills will be required to interface with team members, suppliers, customers, and sales.
- Must be able to work safely in a hands-on environment.
- Must be familiar with the FMEA process.

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $70,000 - $95,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
