Job Overview


TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.


As Manufacturing Development Engineer for the Model Shop, you will be responsible for the design of prototype tooling and for the development of manufacturing methods for prototypes and models. The model shop provides support to the engineering departments and to the product development engineers of the Industrial Business Unit in the concept and development phase of projects.

Responsibilities of the role:


  • Designs prototype tooling to produce small prototype series in the model shop. Can also include assembly tooling. 
  • Assists project teams with the development of production methods for prototype series. 
  • Drives the development of new production methods for proto builds. Keeps informed of new developments in the field of production in tooling.
  • Develops methods to optimize and integrate the use of 3D printing for prototypes and for production tools in Additive Manufacturing Design. 
  • Identifies and applies LEAN methodologies to ensure processes are controlled and continuously improved.
  • Participates in Design reviews and FMEA’s for development projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of objectives and operational plans.
  • Ability in influencing stakeholders across an organization without the benefit of direct reporting relationships.
  • Ensures worker safety is always an utmost concern and that safety standards are understood and consistently practiced.

Requirements for the role:


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and fluent Dutch preferred.
  • A background in tooling design and manufacturing development. 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical engineering ideally. 
  • Experience in 6 sigma/lean awareness and continuous improvement.
  • Capability with MS Office suit
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • 3D Design experience required. Creo work environment experience is a plus.
  • Experience in WEDM machining would be a plus.
  • Mechatronics skills e.g. automation and electronics/software development is a plus.
