TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice.  They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp.  The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Digital Model, Performance Simulation, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements.  They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.  Typical fields of expertise include materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems. 

Your main tasks:

As ‘Manager RD&E’, the candidate is responsible for the future of our terminal block portfolio. In this capacity, he or she will be working closely with all relevant departments to ensure our platform-NPI’s are delivered on-time, on-budget and on-quality, including hitting our sustainability targets. As leader of the Product Development Engineering-teams; handling internal and external escalations, driving continues improvement of engineering-systems, ensure engineering knowledge- \ data-management, capacity and capability management though the identification of skill gaps and setting up individual development plans to close these, etc.. are all part of your activities.  Beyond that, working closely with the production-location(s) to ensure quality-, delivery- and cost-performance meets TE-, customer- and general-market expectations -and- through cooperating with Product Management help to identifying future needs of our product-lines, ensuring the innovations are ready when need-be is part of your day-to-day role. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the bi-locational engineering activities with product development and product engineering teams in Den Bosch (Netherlands) and St. Priest (France) in the support of PRS innovation and new product efforts
  • Management of departmental G&Os, regular conversations with purpose, and year end evaluation processes, as well as ensuring continuous development of necessary and evolving skills in the product development function
  • Lead Innovation-Projects, which contribute at least 15% of your team’s working hours, to be on-time, on-budget and ensure they generate the technology readiness level foreseen.
  • Management of departmental competence, capability and capacity to allow your team-members to deliver on-time, on-cost, on-quality for NPI-projects you assign them to Continues Improvement of your department, to ensure effective and efficient execution
  • Enforce the proper usage of advanced quality planning tools in the development, like DFMEA to identify design risk early on and mitigation strategies, as well as support in creation of PFMEA and prototype control plans
  • Ensure close cooperation of PDE teams with prototyping- and test-laboratories early in the development process to enhance de-risking and time-to-market
  • Ensure close cooperation of PDE teams with manufacturing development engineers early in the development process to identify and address design for manufacturability challenges
  • Engage in cross-functional business development for customer and project portfolio with the product management & system architect function(s)
  • Refine platform vs. application engineering approaches to streamline development efforts and enable economies of scale via common design elements vs. customer specific designs
  • Handle escalations with key OEM customers and ability to setup and drive task force activities for product performance resolutions in the case of escalations
  • Responsibility for engineering aspects in customer SOWs
  • Engineering NPI representative in quality audits, ensuring that ISO9001 engineering requirements are met and can be demonstrated
  • Drive compliance with raw material platforming and push for increased sustainability  
    (resins & metals) 

Key performance Indicators: 

  • Launch on Time, on Cost & on Quality for project within responsibility
  • Timely execution of APQP deliverables
  • First-time-right for product verification testing
  • EVC Engagement Survey Results  

Your ideal profile:

  • Must have a minimum of an academic degree in a discipline of Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience within a Engineering / Manufacturing environment with project responsibilities associated with product or process development, and/or project management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an product development environment is required, ideally with mechanical products in harsh environments
  • A professional level of business acumen
  • A good understanding of manufacturing processes combined with good technical awareness
  • Know-How of quality tools in engineering (DFMEA, reliability engineering)
  • Deep knowledge of product development processes in a stage-gate approach
  • System understanding of (Industrial) Panel Architectures would be a benefit
