TE Connectivity's Industrial Automation & Electrification Business Unit is seeking a Senior R&D/Product Development Engineer with specialized expertise in contact physics and mechanical/thermal simulations. This role will conceive original ideas for new products and lead product development from requirements definition through production release, with particular focus on simulation-driven design validation and contact system optimization.

Your main tasks:

• Participate in global product development project teams as the engineer responsible for new product design
• Create product concept (presentations) for distribution to internal and external stakeholders
• Coordinate prototyping of new product designs when needed to verify design elements or to provide samples to customers
• Produce detailed 3D designs and 2D drawings of injection-molded and precision-stamped electro-mechanical components and assemblies
• Perform advanced FEM (finite element modeling) simulations for mechanical stress analysis, thermal simulations, and mechanical failure mode assessment
• Validate simulation results through correlation with physical testing and prototype verification
• Analyze contact physics behavior like material, plating, wear patterns, operating conditions
• Work with Quality Engineering to perform Design Reviews, Design FMEA, and Process FMEA analyses
• Develop comprehensive test plans to qualify products to performance requirements
• Create Application Specifications, documenting proper product use for customers
• Collaborate with TE Legal team to document Intellectual Property associated with new designs

Your ideal profile:

• Bachelor's/master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent
• 5+ years of product design engineering experience, preferably with electro-mechanical components
• Expertise or affinity with contact physics
• Advanced experience in mechanical and thermal simulation tools/ software (Ansys) or similar)
• Strong design/development and presentation skills
• Proficiency with 3D CAD design software (CREO/PDM Link preferred)
• Knowledgeable in engineering tools e.g.: tolerance analysis, Statistical analyses, D-FMEA, P-FMEA, design reviews and verification testing
• Knowledge of injection molding/high-speed stamping/plating/assembly processes
• Experience working with international standards and certification agencies
• Capability for creative, analytical, and structured thinking with strong execution skills
• Self-directed with technical competence to develop simulation-validated designs with minimal supervision
• Team oriented, capable of working in an international, multidisciplinary team with remote team members
• English, speaking and writing is a must, German is a plus
• Continuous improvement mindset, for example usage of AI
