Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

As a Sr Product Development Engineer in TE's Terminal Platform Engineering Team, you will help enable our customers to flourish in the fast-changing automotive contact connector market. You will tackle challenging terminal design and technology development projects for a broad range of sizes and applications, including data/signal through E-Mobility power, and utilize technical tools to guide innovative solutions toward success. Product Development Engineers are highly engaged, foundational members of the product launch team and manage product introduction from concept through to production. Our R&D Product Development Engineers work directly with OEMs and Tier 1 customers to determine specifications and generate solutions while collaborating with various operations such as design, fabrication of tooling and product testing. This position will be located in Winston-Salem, NC 

Responsibilities:

  • Conceiving ideas for new terminals and contact connectivity products and introducing them into practice.  
  • Gathering voice of customer and developing product solutions while working closely with global manufacturing resources and outside suppliers to meet all TE technical, quality, and cost objectives.   
  • Adapting and reconfiguring existing product designs for performance enhancements, manufacturability improvements, and cost reduction efforts.  
  • Submitting intellectual property information to legal according to policy 
  • Conducting feasibility studies and communicating product testing requirements 
  • Creating all required product documentation including, but not limited to, solid models, drawings, product and application specifications, DFMEAs, tolerance analysis, and test plans & reports. 
  • Maintaining engineering control of product related documentation via the engineering change system.  
  • Directing and supporting detailed product design, prototype fabrication, testing, and manufacturing ramp. 
  • Working closely with the new product launch teams and the final manufacturing location to ensure smooth launch of products into the production facility.    

What your background should look like:

 

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Masters' is preferred  
  • 7 years minimum of product design/development experience 
  • Automotive terminal and connector design and manufacturing experience preferred 
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly design principals  
  • Proficient in technical tools such as 3D CAD (Creo preferred), CAE (ANSYS preferred), DoE, FMEA, and QFD 
  • Basic problem-solving skills (Fishbone, 5 Why Analysis, etc.) 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written) 
  • Ability to manage multiple products/projects with attention to detail  
  • Familiarity with hybrid and electric vehicle architectures and integration, and experience with busbar and battery technologies is a plus.  
  • Periodic travel is required depending on project needs, especially to Mexico.

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $107,680 - $161,520 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
