Modeling and Simulation Engineer

At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Tooling Teams perform the manufacturing functions related to metal working dies and tool making. They are responsible for completing all assignments to construct, modify and condition metal working dies and may fabricate new gages, cutting or forming tools and fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models and engineering or shop specifications. They perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions; recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered; and solve problems relating to unusual materials, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following TE Connectivity's EH&S policies and procedures.

Tasks and Responsibilities

- Support on current and future designs.
- Able to read and understand complex mechanical detail parts and assembly drawings.
- Learn complex engineering concepts and perform calculations & develop simulation models.
- Partner with mechanical design engineers to optimize designs and recommend solutions to achieve tooling requirements.
- Perform structural analyses using ANSYS suite of FEA tools.
- Perform simulations of complex mechanical systems using various finite element analysis (FEA) methods, including statics, dynamics, thermal.
- Interface with Mechanical Design Engineers in order to understand how to best serve their needs.
- Lead specific computational simulation activities becoming an in-house expert on modeling and simulation.
- Prepare models for simulation, converting CAD into simplified/optimized meshed models.
- Analyze designs developed that may need to perform structural analysis (FEA), thermal analysis and fluid flow analysis.
- Conduct feasibility studies – including generation of well-documented test plans.
- Identify areas of highest risk and prioritize resources to address those areas.
- Able to create detailed and converged finite element analyses based on inputs from design teams.
- Able to recommend design feature modifications to alleviate stress concerns, while being mindful of the impact on weight and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners to identify risks, strategically create simulations, plan and conduct validation testing, and deliver objective, data-driven engineering guidance and solutions.
- Drive root cause efforts and design experiments to resolve problems.
- Request the required input data (test conditions, material properties, design data, manufacturing tools, and methods).
- Determine the required steps, models, and iterations necessary to fully analyze the problem.

What your background should look like:

- Extensive experience and proficient in ANSYS Workbench environment; particularly with structural, thermal, and dynamics modules.
- Experience in implicit and explicit finite element analysis (FEA).
- Solid understanding of linear algebra, algorithms, optimization, numerical methods.
- Effective communicator with teamwork experience.
- Good analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software
- Experience with Creo would be an asset
- Knowledge and experience running computational simulation (FEA).
