TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

 

Reporting to the VP of Engineering/CTO for the Sensors Business Unit, the Engineering Operations Director is a global role supporting the matrixed engineering organization, with engineering hubs in China, Mexico, India, EMEA, and the United States.  The role will provide execution, change management, and thought leadership pertaining to engineering productivity and standardization, product and trade compliance, digital tools, and TEOA (continuous improvement) for engineering.  This leader will leverage robust data analytics to identify and implement innovation solutions across the business unit that increase engineering productivity and improve the customer experience. Using the power of data and persuasion, the role will influence outcomes in areas the role does not directly manage.

Responsibilities:

Functional Job Responsibilities

  • Lead change and standardization across the organization to drive efficiencies that lead to cultural, structural, process, and talent agility. 
  • Establish a culture around data analytics – identifying the most meaningful data to collect, analyzing it, drawing conclusions, and presenting those conclusions as data intelligence to provide insight and drive innovative solutions for the business.
  • Provide robust KPI reporting and tools to drive change that increases visibility, transparency, and productivity for stakeholders to enable the creation and delivery of winning products.
  • Align processes and digital tools to exceed customer expectations of emerging and existing compliance coding availability on our products. Lead a rigorous trade compliance process for engineering.
  • Play a leading role in creating and executing the sustainability improvement plan for Sensors Engineering.
  • Lead TEOA (TE Operating Advantage) Star Level continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the enterprise Engineering TEOA KPIs and consistent with the BU engineering strategy. 
  • Lead the adoption of best in class product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions that enable faster time to market for our products.
  • Lead new engineering process improvement initiatives, translating them into measurable results and developing methods for scaling across the Sensors team.
  • Work together with the Business Transformation Organization (BTO) to further define the TECH PAC process and governance model to institutionalize this within BU Sensors. Own the TECH PAC output.
  • Drive the Milestones and Gates preparation for the TECH PAC including the presentation to the SLT in collaboration with the cross-functional teams (PMs, System Architecture, Strategy, PL Engineering) to be able to formulate a compelling business case for the technology investment.
  • Invite and held TECH PAC regular meetings in alignment with stakeholders to the SLT and drive follow-ups.

  • Translate our BU strategy into a clear vision and purpose for the Engineering Operations team that balances both transformational and incremental changes necessary to execute on the BU strategy both in the short-term and long-term.
  • Set relevant and actionable performance goals for your team aligned to the BU strategy with a focus on developing capabilities and increasing efficiency and productivity. 
  • Drive organization effectiveness by structuring your organization in a way that best enables the BU strategy, maximizes resource efficiency and productivity, and provides role clarity and clear lines of accountability.
  • Build a high performing team to support the business now and in the future by identifying organization skillset/role gaps and plans for filling those gaps, assessing talent fit ensuring the right talent is matched to the right roles to meet business needs, and hiring diverse and high performing talent to complement and strengthen the team.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering is Required - Master's Degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience managing engineering programs and projects, change management leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen with a thorough understanding of the interdependencies across the engineering, operations, plant manufacturing, and product management functions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, manage and inspire a diverse global team located in multiple regions and spread across multiple disciplines.
  • Broad strategic thinker, with a clear vision and direction for driving efficiency and productivity in an organization; Six Sigma and Lean methodology experience a plus.
  • Strong history of using data analytics and critical thinking to reach logical conclusions and to persuade others.
  • Trained in change management practices with demonstrated experience in applying change management principles to successfully lead to the quick adoption of complex organizational changes.  
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with a proven track record of forging excellent relationships across organizations and with senior management.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills. A convincing communicator with compelling perspectives that drive engagement and excitement both up and down the organization. 
  • Proven ability to translate business strategy into meaningful action plans. 
  • Must be able to effectively work with people of all levels, cultures and functional backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in standard reporting/presentation tools .
  • ASICs and MEMS related project management skills preferred.
