R&D/PRODUCT DVL ENGINEER II, PRESSURE 

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

TE Sensors Solutions is seeking a talented Product Development Engineer with experience in designing and developing products for Si gauge & MEMS based pressure sensors.  As part of the development team you will be under the guidance from R&D leaders to develop the next generation of sensors for the Hazardous Location, medical and industrial markets.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, minor supervision or self-directed, the ability to work across cultures and functions, strong attention to detail and an aptitude for analyzing and improving engineering and product development processes.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes quantitative information and applies professional judgement to resolve a variety of moderately complex problems using problem solving (preferred Six Sigma)
  • Partner with Platform R&D engineering to understand products and existing processes to improve cost and efficiency (VA/VE projects)
  • Participate in a cross functional project team with scientists, product managers, and other design & manufacturing engineers to develop concepts and designs for product development.  
  • Perform mechanical design of components, stack-up analysis, materials and assemblies including model and print generation. Realize the 3D models and the 2D drawings.
  • Manage Product Lifecycle Management process for new and existing products.
  • Expected to interface with cross functional team members in completion of design control documentation through Design Reviews during a ECO and NPI process.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to efficiently introduce new products into existing or new processes.
  • Prototypes development in collaboration with platform R&D and process development team
  • Create a design and product validation testing, interpreting results (DVP&R)
  • Collaborate with Platform R&D and Process Development team to support D&P-FMEA documentation
  • Collaborate with process development engineering to ease the design process tooling and fixtures based upon design concepts (DFM)
  • Support the Quality Control, Operations & Mfg. Eng. Departments on Quality complex issues.

Competencies

  • 3-5 yrs experience in product development in a manufacturing environment for Industrial, Medical, Automotive or similar industries - preferably in sensors manufacturing
  • Experience with design optimization and qualification
  • Strong project management skills are essential.
  • Experience in technical production processes documentation (PFMEA, Control Plan)
  • Problem solving using methodologies such as Six Sigma or similar
  • Experience in Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing practices
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical tools such as Minitab
  • Knowledge of Development Engineering process w/ Gated Phases (APQP), PPAP and FMEA
  • Previous experience with CAD for modeling and drafting – preferably Solidworks
  • Ability to communicate effectively to leadership.
  • DFSS is a plus
