Job Overview

 

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing Engineering Teams are process leaders for stamping, molding or assembly related topics, ensuring the processes are running at optimum levels for quality and output. They are experts in mold tooling, die tooling, machining, and assembly techniques, possessing extensive knowledge of the associated manufacturing processes which may include the optimization and standardization of stamping / molding / assembly or other processes within the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing Engineering Teams enable the TE business unit plants to reach TE Operating Advantage (TEOA) requirements, roll out Centers of Excellence (COE), Best Demonstrated Practices (BDP’s) and advise plants on tool and machine duplications / corrections / improvements. They design and develop manufacturing process and automation platforms and apply them for the realization of new product developments as well as optimization of existing products already in production. The Teams also support Product Development in the selection and optimization of tools for piece part production and the selection of the most suitable manufacturing concepts relative to planned manufacturing quantities, quality requirements and manufacturing location. They act as interface between engineering and production to ensure manufacturability of new designs and smooth production ramp up as well as support the research & development teams to produce sample manufacturing equipment, product samples and prototypes.

 

This role will be leading and managing a team of circa 10 Manufacturing Engineers alongside managing and supporting the Toolroom Operatives (circa 6). Primarily you will ensure the team are process leaders for machining, plating, moulding or assembly related topics, ensuring that the processes are running at optimum levels for quality and output.


The TEam are experts in mould tooling, die tooling, machining, and assembly techniques, you will support the upskilling and extensive knowledge sharing of the associated manufacturing processes which may include the optimization and standardization of stamping / molding / assembly or other processes within the manufacturing environment.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Create and define a department strategy that links with the overall business objectives
  • To manage and prioritise the workload of the Toolroom, Facilities and Maintenance, Engineering and Estimating. This will include shop floor support, capital investment proposals, new product introduction, estimating, methods improvements and cost saving projects.
  • Develop, optimise and stabilise existing production processes
  • To liaise with the Design Engineering Department and Project Managers to ensure the timely and cost-effective introduction of new products using DFM, Simultaneous Engineering, and FMEA tools as appropriate.
  • To ensure high levels of responsiveness and permanent solutions to shop floor problems in support of the DOTIF (Delivery on time in full) targets.
  • Create and maintain a vigorous programme of cost reduction initiatives with regular reporting.
  • Manage and control the budget.
  • Manage high levels of routings standards accuracy in support of correct product costs, accurate efficiency reporting and capacity management.
  • Determine and execute on the training and development needs of the team.
  • Carry our regular 121’s with your team members
  • Ensure that appropriate business and personal development objectives are shared and regularly monitored with the team
  • Maintain target levels of 5S workplace organisation
  • Prepare the base data for the company’s monthly Bookings and Billings presentation.
  • Work with and help roll out TE Operating Advantage (TEOA) requirements, roll out Centers of Excellence (COE) utilise Best Demonstrated Practices (BDP’s).
  • Keep well-informed of technical developments and review manufacturing methods.
  • Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations as laid down in company procedures and Government legislation.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by the business from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

 

  • Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing 
  • Minimum 2 years as a Leader
  • Degree in an engineering or associated background
  • Experience and knowledge of TPM
  • Broad and in-depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques, 8D, 5S, Cell Design and quick change over.
  • Hands on experience with CNC machines, moulding machines and tool rooms
  • Previous experience maintaining an MRP system.
  • Experience in ensuring quality and lessons learned with flow diagrams, PFMEA’s, control plans and quality inspection plans.
  • Identifies and recommends new or improved manufacturing processes and technical developments.
  • Confident in analysing data and presenting findings to senior management
  • Continuous improvement involving Quick Change Over (SMED), 5S+1, Mistake Proofing and Standards of Work.
  • Worked on large capital investment projects and delivered results.
  • Drive and passion to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with SAP and Minitab.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or equivalent such as Red X.

TE Connectivity recruits on campus between September and March for New Grad (FT), Rotational, Internship and Co-op positions beginning in May.
