Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers to determine requirements of new products, develop and analyze concepts, produce prototypes, oversee testing, and work with process engineering to bring products to manufacturing while meeting product requirements and cost targets.
  • Provide technical support for TE HV Contactor Products in the development and implementation of customer applications.
  • Assist sales staff in assessing potential applications of TE products to meet customer needs and preparing/reviewing detailed product specifications.
  • Support quoting process, including concept and cost estimation reviews.
  • Define and develop new product concepts with other global TE HV Contactor departments that provide technical or cost advantages to the market/customer in order to improve TE’s contactor market position.

 

Professional Experience:

  • Good background in high voltage applications using contactors, relays, or circuit breakers. 
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of magnetics and DC voltage physics. 
  • Several years experience in engineering of automotive or power distribution related products and familiarity with automotive quality requirements. (QS9000, TS16949)
  • Pro-Engineer CAD skills a plus.
  • Magnetic Finite Element Analysis experience is a plus.
  • Past test experience of high voltage products and applications.

 

Special Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Willingness to travel
  • Ability to work with engineering groups, project management, quality, and purchasing functions of TE internal departments and major automotive customers.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities.

 

Educational Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Physics, Mechancial Engineering or Electrical Engineering
