Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing Engineering Teams are process leaders for stamping, molding or assembly related topics, ensuring the processes are running at optimum levels for quality and output. They are experts in mold tooling, die tooling, machining, and assembly techniques, possessing extensive knowledge of the associated manufacturing processes which may include the optimization and standardization of stamping / molding / assembly or other processes within the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing Engineering Teams enable the TE business unit plants to reach TE Operating Advantage (TEOA) requirements, roll out Centers of Excellence (COE), Best Demonstrated Practices (BDP’s) and advise plants on tool and machine duplications / corrections / improvements. They design and develop manufacturing process and automation platforms and apply them for the realization of new product developments as well as optimization of existing products already in production. The Teams also support Product Development in the selection and optimization of tools for piece part production and the selection of the most suitable manufacturing concepts relative to planned manufacturing quantities, quality requirements and manufacturing location. They act as interface between engineering and production to ensure manufacturability of new designs and smooth production ramp up as well as support the research & development teams to produce sample manufacturing equipment, product samples and prototypes.

Key Responsibilities:

Packaging design
1.    Standardize packaging as far as possible.
2.    Incorporate latest trend in packaging including material science to make packaging green (recycle, reuse, …) – make packaging green.
3.    Identify and develop feasible packaging concepts and technical solutions based on supplier technologies and internal/external manufacturing capabilities.
4.    Identify and validate new packaging technologies
5.    Interface with the manufacturing and distribution center to ensure a smooth transfer of knowledge and technology from pilot to production scale for materials, pack forms and packaging equipment.
6.    Provide recommendations for relevant equipment modification and/or purchase and determine the impact of new packaging design on existing and new automation at manufacturing locations
Packaging Analysis
7.    Lead analysis of nonstandard package components and improvement actions to eliminate deviations from standard.
8.    Analyze packaging can impact transport cost – example fill rate of container and optimize design of packaging to improve fill rate.
Packaging Orchestration
9.    Lead packaging cost optimization and quality projects through scoping, validation and commercialization phases.
10.    Determine and document component equipment interfaces and capabilities.
11.    Provide technical support and training to manufacturing regarding packaging systems and machinery.
12.    Lead in-plant material qualifications for packaging changes across primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
13.    Assess the technical capabilities of and provide technical packaging support to contract manufacturers and third-party logistics providers.
14.    Engage with packaging suppliers to assess new materials and formats, and to reduce costs.
15.    Do technical audit and validation of new packaging vendor.
16.    Ensure traceability and marking on packaging to satisfy customer and quality traceability needs.
17.    Optimize transport cost with superior packaging projects.

Candidate Profile 

•    10+ years of broad packaging design and management experience in a best-in-class global company, including manufacturing facilities and distribution centers.
•    Strong business acumen with the ability to understand the operational and financial priorities of the gross margin and productivity and initiatives on the packaging areas of highest impact.
•    Lead and motivate a high-performing cross sites improvement activities through strong influencing and convincing skills.
•    Strong Influencing skills to partner effectively with the cross sites packaging team.
•    Effective communication skills to translate science and technologies to improvement actions and multiple sites within the business scope.
•    Bachelor’s degree required.
