Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.



Responsibilities & Qualifications

We are hiring a Product Development Engineer for our site in Oostkamp.

In this position you will be responsible to work on product designs from concept till serial production, by taking into account quality, cost and timings with the target to deliver towards customer expectations.

Tasks Summary & Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements and translate into a reliable product design, considering quality, costs, producibility.
  • Develop Terminals and Connectors – Specific growth towards expert on compliant pin technology
  • Use a structured way of going through the design process and execute documentation according our procedures
  • Regular team reviews with different departments: Initiate Project analysis and team feasibility commitments for Design proposal
  • 3D Modelling and Creation of production and customer drawings
  • Identification and elimination of possible risks in an early stage over different tools (DFMEA, Tolerance calculations, FEM in cooperation with our Simulation department, etc.)
  • Use SixSigma tools to develop, analyse and improve major design features
  • Coordination of prototypes to verify your designs
  • Initiate and guide laboratory testing with samples based upon proposal, analyse the results and discuss with customers
  • Release products based on measuring and test evaluations
  • Provide technical support on customer related requests and towards our production on quality issues
  • Continuous improvement and innovation approach towards technology progress, and where needed protect by patents
  • Personal development towards new developments in the business field


  • Master’s in mechanical engineering, material science, physics or comparable degree
  • Ideally, a minimum of 3 years of professional experience
  • Creo Elements/PRO (formal PRO/E) CAD knowledge is an advantage
  • Good understanding of materials, mechanics, stamping and plating processes
  • Experience in termination technics (IDC, Crimping, Welding) and contact physics is an advantage
  • SixSigma Green Belt is an advantage
  • Interest in plastics, metals and automotive business
