Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Product Development Engineer will be primarily responsible for the new product development in various product lines, including small centerline product – consistent with manufacturing techniques and economies - using information and input provided by product managers, marketing and customers. Possess and apply considerable knowledge of Product Engineering principles, practices and procedures, including understanding of manufacturing technologies such as stamping, plating molding assembly and machine application. The role will involve working with Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Plant Quality, outside vendors and external engineering to ensure smooth release and maintenance of parts.


This role will report in to the US engineering manager and will be based in the Harrisburg, PA area.



  • Work on the design and documentation of precision stamped and Injection molded electro-mechanical component assemblies.
  • Initiate or perform FEM and support analysis for critical items of design proposals
  • Create & edit designs and specifications to facilitate manufacturing and new product extensions.
  • Coordinate with labs to ensure product testing, design validation testing and certification per international standards.
  • Support and perform Peer Reviews, D-FMEA, P-FMEA together with Quality Department and Centers of Competence
  • Collaborate with other engineering groups, e.g. Advanced development or engineering in other regions; share best practices. 
  • Support trails on new development methodologies. (e.g. Digital Engineering)
  • Handle New product Development from requirements phase to Production phase 
  • Responsible for developing innovative concepts and presenting them to internal and/or external customers.
  • Should be able to quickly and easily shift direction and provide alternative solutions based on feedback to original proposals.
  • Be able to recognize and adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Translate internal and external product requirements into achievable product specifications.
  • Properly document all technical discoveries, inventions and intellectual property.


Key Competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-5 plus years of design engineering experience
  • Strong design/development and presentation skills.
  • Strong commitment to engineering rigor, i.e. tolerance analysis, FEA simulation, design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA, prototyping and verification testing.
  • Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing practices is plus.
  • Good understanding of molding, stamping, plating, and assembly processes.
  • Knowledge in resins, metal and plating would be a preferred experience 
  • Ability to understand and work out complex technical solutions
  • Capability of creative, analytical and structured thinking with the ability to execute; must possess the maturity, technical competence and natural authority to look after technical interests with minimal supervision
  • Track record with 3D CAD design software, CREO / PDM Link
  • Experience with Finite Element Modeling (Ansys) preferred
  • Knowledge in Basic Quality techniques and statistical analysis tools, 6sigma belt is an advantag
